Big Finn Field A community partnership to improve the field at Big Finn Hill Park Why do we need to do this? Field space is tight and our wet spring makes many fields unusable.

Kirkland Lacrosse would like to partner with King County Parks to improve one of our local fields. On top of this, the sport of lacrosse is growing quickly in Kirkland. If we cannot find an adequate facility, we will be forced to turn kids away next spring. The field must have turf due to our weather and lights due to our early sunsets February thru March. What field are we talking about? The socc

er field inside Big Finn Hill Park off Juanita Drive. Currently the field is unusable for most of the year due to inadequate drainage. What improvements will be made? Plans call for installation of a synthetic turf field with lights and a perimeter fence. A small field house will also be built for storage of equipment. There are no proposed changes to the landscaping or vegetation. Who pays for this? Kirkland Lacrosse is paying for the vast majority of the costs
using money raised from private donors. Part of these costs will be recouped over the following years through usage fees. King County is also paying for some of the design and other grants or funding sources may come into play. None of these costs will be passed on to tax payers. Will there be more traffic? The field will bet more usage. The heaviest usage will be weeknight practices, however this is the same level of usage that currently occurs in the fall for soccer. On Saturdays, the field will host games. What about the lights? We have proposed state-of-the
art lighting that reduces upward lighting and light spill. This new lighting technology is different from the old-fashioned football stadium lights. This site was chosen due to the heavy tree buffer that protects neighboring property. The lighting will also deter vandalism in the area. Will there be more noise? There will NOT be a loudspeaker system. Substitution horns will be muted to the level of a referee whistle. Lacrosse is about the same noise level as soccer. Why do you need support? This is a unique project where a public facility will be built without King County having to pay for it or raise taxes for the project. To do this, a partnership will be created between King County and Kirkland Lacrosse. The King County Council will need to approve the partnership. As the Council considers this, we need to show them there is broad community and taxpayer support. What can I do to help? We need volunteers! You can
