SUBJ: MEMORIAL DAY MESSAGE
1. On the last Monday of May, our Nation pauses to honor and remember our countrymen who were killed on the battlefield or died from related injuries or sickness as they fought to preserve the ideals of freedom and democracy. This Memorial Day - May 30th, I call on each of you to remember all United States Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, and Merchant Mariners who paid the ultimate sacrifice, who gave their last full measure of devotion fighting for our Nation. We also honor the family members they left behind.
2. For 232 years come August 4th, your U.S. Coast Guard hascontributed to every U.S. conflict and war, proudly serving alongside the Joint Force to protect the ideals of freedom, liberty, equality, and justice, to preserve our homeland security, and to support our National defense.
3. As we witness world events today, your military service is highly relevant. Every day you stand ready to counter violations of a nation's sovereign right to protect its maritime resources; ready to combat illegal maritime shipments of poisonous narcotics, illicit weapons, or illegally harvested fish; and ready to model acceptable
maritime behavior across the globe.
4. Please join Dawn and I this Memorial Day as we reflect on the service of those who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for those things we hold most dear as Americans: freedom, liberty, equality, and justice. I ask that you also join us in reflecting on our Gold Star families who lost a loved one in military service.
5. ADM Karl Schultz, Commandant (CCG), sends.
