USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 091-20-18, Oakland County, MI Welcome to the page of the Oakland County USCG Auxiliary Flotilla. You will also see how we interact with the active duty USCG and our many missions. Why?

On this site you will read what USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 091-20-18 (Oakland County MI) does to assist and educate people concerning boating safety and environmental protection in our area of operation. But, they must complete the Coast Guard prescribed

training programs before participating. The Oakland County MI USCG Flotilla is driven by member participation. Flotilla 091-20-18 has about 30 Members and was chartered on October 17, 1960. USCG Veterans & Retirees, Auxiliarists & Retired Auxiliarists: National Vietnam War Veterans Day is on March 29th.

More than 8.7 million Americans served on active duty during the Vietnam period (Nov 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975). There were at least 58,220 U.S. military fatal casualties in the Vietnam War. Several thousand U.S. military personnel went missing in action (MIA) or were captured as prisoners of war (POWs). As of 2022, the U.S. Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency classified 470 of the 1244 soldiers still unaccounted for in Vietnam as "non-recoverable", meaning that there is conclusive evidence that the persons were killed during the conflict, but that it is not believed that it will be possible to recover their bodies. Joint U.S.-Vietnamese teams continue to work on identifying and excavating the bodies of the remaining unaccounted for service personnel.

Approximately 8,000 Coast Guardsmen served in Vietnam. Many of these Coast Guard Combat Veterans/Retirees are members of the CGCVA (https://www.coastguardcombatvets.org/ ) The CGCVA lists 35 CG Combat Veterans who were awarded the Purple Heart for service during the Vietnam War.

Thank you all for your service.

Commemorative Events are accessible at: vietnamwar50th.com

The Vietnam War Commemoration is conducted according to the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act to help honor and pay tribute to Vietnam Veterans and their families.

Flotilla members who were in Bay City, Michigan for a training weekend attended a traditional annual district memorial service honoring those members who crossed the bar over the past year. Our flotilla lost our commander Don Ledwith early this year. He was commemorated along with other members by one strike each on the ship’s bell along with prayers and inspirational readings. We wish Don fair winds and following seas. Rest easy, your shipmates have the watch.
