Our Sustainability Academy students, Sustainable Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) Teacher Lori Sanada, and Design Academy Principal Kelcie De Mello had the honor of serving as ambassadors at the Hawai‘i Tourism Conference at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on Thursday!

The Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority (HTA) conference brought together over 600 hospitality professionals, natural resource stewards, community leaders, government officials, and visionaries from across the islands.

This year’s theme, Ke Kahu o ka Mālamalama - Guardians of the Light: Honoring Our Stories, Advancing Knowledge, Inspiring a Path Forward, perfectly aligns with the HTA mission to empower student leadership and sustainable stewardship.

We are so proud of our ambassadors for representing our school and stepping up as future caretakers of our community and visitor industry! ✨

👩‍⚕️ Investing in the future of healthcare at Maui High! 🩺

Kimberly Kaya-Ishizu, our Nursing Services teacher and HOSA advisor, recently attended the 2026 Hawai’i Health Science Teachers Conference at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM).

During the two-day conference, Ms. Kaya-Ishizu participated in hands-on workshops, gathered valuable classroom resources, and networked with leading healthcare professionals. A special highlight of the trip was reconnecting with former Maui High teacher Jacy Sera, who is now teaching health at Pearl City High School! ✨

We’re excited to see how these fresh insights, resources, and connections inspire and empower our future healthcare leaders right here in the classroom. 💙

🍋 Fresh ideas in the making at Maui High School! 🍋‍🟩

Our Level 1 Foundations of Culinary Arts students are diving hands-on into the Young Entrepreneurs Program (YEP), an initiative sponsored by the Hawai’i Agriculture Foundation.

Over 100 students are coming up with ideas to transform locally sourced ingredients into market-ready, value-added products as they build their very own startups. A massive mahalo to Mahi Pono and Maui Harvest for the generous donation of lemons and limes! Having fresh local produce allowed our young chefs to experiment and test out their recipes.

We can’t wait to see these student-created products hit the market in the near future

Mahalo to Executive Chef Mitch Cooper from the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa for joining our Culinary Arts Work-Based Learning class!

Chef Mitch spent time mentoring our aspiring chefs, helping them learn a possible appetizer for the upcoming Maui High School Foundation Hall of Honor Dinner. Students got hands-on experience learning how to make arancini (Italian rice balls) from a master of the craft!

We are so grateful for local industry leaders who invest their time, talent, and passion into shaping the next generation of culinary talent.

Mahalo to Mauliola Pharmacy, Department of Health and Service Academy Principal Beth Ayotte for hosting a training for our HOSA students on Friday, September 11th! 🩺✨

Our students are putting that training into action by volunteering at the Service Academy Booth during Saber Family Fun Night as part of a community impact grant. Make sure to stop by the booth, support our future healthcare leaders, and try your luck at winning some awesome prizes!

A huge shoutout to Mark Morimoto from Airgas Maui, who is giving his time and expertise to mentor advanced manufacturing students Isaac Kondo and Ethan Shiroma as they gear up for the Hawaii State Welding Competition this October on Oahu!

Community mentorship like this is what builds the next generation of skilled trade leaders.

From farm to retail! 🍍 Our Culinary Arts Level 1 and Level 4 students, alongside Teacher Scott Tresidder, recently attended an incredible Farm to Retail Workshop.

Students had the opportunity to learn from award-winning culinary educator Chef Grant Sato and Maui Gold Pineapple Product Developer John Cadman. Together, they explored the rich history of pineapple in Hawai’i and got hands-on experience creating value-added products—including house-made pineapple syrup and pineapple fudge! To top it off, the group went behind the scenes with a tour of the UH Maui Food Innovation Center.

Stay tuned… these delicious new Maui Gold products (and more!) are coming soon to the Saber Cafe! 🍍✨

Mahalo to the Hawai’i Agriculture Foundation for organizing and sponsoring this workshop.
