True Charity welcomes Thrive on Purpose as a resource partner! Thrive on Purpose equips individuals, churches, and nonprofits to live out the Biblical call to “one another.”

Thrive's church program is a great resource for a nonprofit's church partners! This program supports your church connections to your ministry. Additionally, they support nonprofits directly. Nonprofits can access training and consultation for fundraising, board development, volunteer management, and church partner engagement.

Thrive on Purpose believes that true transformation happens when resources are given and relationships are established with personal responsibility. Learn more at thriveonpurpose.org.

During his fieldwork and research at the American Enterprise Institute, Robert L. Woodson, Sr., noticed the impact grassroots organizations were having on low-income neighborhoods throughout the country. In response, he founded the National Center for Neighborhood Enterprise (now known as the Woodson Center) to replicate the successful strategies and methods he observed.

Out of that came his book, "Lessons From the Least of These," in which he mapped out 10 “Principles of Neighborhood Enterprise.” Each closely aligns with True Charity’s values and philosophy — especially the value we place on subsidiarity, i.e., those closest to the problem are best-equipped to solve it.

We're grateful for pioneers like Robert Woodson, fighting to make subsidiarity the norm across the nation. Thank you for having both a heart and a mind for the poor, Robert Woodson.

Today is our Video Producer, RJ Harbison's, last day at True Charity. We are so grateful for RJ's servant heart over the past several years as a valued member of our team. From countless hours spent editing videos to taking care of all our tech needs during our Summit conference, RJ will be deeply missed.

RJ and his wife, Jessica, will be moving to Vancouver, BC, where RJ will study at Regent College to become a chaplain for artists. We're sending RJ off with gratitude as he follows where the Lord is leading him, though it is bittersweet. We're excited to see the fruits of RJ's commitment to carry TC principles into the arts! ❤️

For years, Joshua's Place in Ohio has successfully run a Food Co-op to serve their community. But recently, their team noticed something important. Some of their co-op members were hungry for even deeper transformation outside of their normal developmental classes. Recognizing this profound desire for change, they didn't just maintain the status quo. They stepped up to create a pathway to walk alongside these individuals in an even more impactful way.

Because of their commitment to relational charity, Joshua's Place was recently honored with True Charity's Waypoint Award. To meet the community's need for deeper connection, they partnered with InnerMission to launch Path Builders. This one-to-one adult mentoring program is based on InnerMission's Thrive program.

Utilizing True Charity tools like the Case Management & Goal Setting MAP and the Mentoring MAP, the program pairs participants with a team member to meet every other week. Together, they work through a customized, one-year plan for healing and growth.

Adding a deeper, more intensive development program to an already successful model takes courage. But Joshua's Place serves as a brilliant "waypoint" for other nonprofits and churches to follow. Let their story encourage you to listen closely to the needs of the people you serve.

And don't be afraid to collaborate with other TC Network members to build stronger programs! This community is readily available to share their experiences for your benefit.

Keep pushing forward! YOU are the resurgence of civil society in the fight against poverty.

Every young mother deserves to be truly seen, heard, and supported as she navigates her future. At ANEW Ministries in Demotte, Indiana, this isn't just an ideal—it's a daily practice.

When a mother joins their Moms Made ANEW mentoring program, her mentor doesn't just offer quick fixes. Instead, they sit down together to complete a self-assessment survey, getting to know her on a deeply personal level. ANEW’s team intentionally walks alongside these young mommas. They champion their unique capabilities and honor their agency as they work to improve their futures.

Because of this commitment to relationship-based care, ANEW Ministries was recently honored with True Charity's Waypoint Award. Last year, ANEW revamped their entire employee onboarding and mentoring process. Today, all ANEW mentors receive True Charity's Mentoring Handbook and familiarize themselves with the 7 Marks of Effective Charity. This robust training for staff and volunteers promotes self-sufficiency and true human flourishing.

Building a life-changing mentoring program takes deep intentionality. But, ANEW Ministries serves as a beautiful "waypoint"—an exemplary marker—for other organizations to follow.

Be encouraged to take practical steps in your own community. To see, hear, and connect with the people you serve. Whether you are just starting a new program or looking to improve what you already do, remember that your dedication to walking alongside others is transforming lives. Keep pushing forward! You are the resurgence of civil society in the fight against poverty.

Charity cannot be delegated to the government.

Why? Because charity, by definition, is voluntary aid that fosters healthy relationships between givers and receivers.

The government simply cannot provide the tailored, relational help that caring members of civil society can offer. Personal knowledge and genuine relationships are what help uncover root causes, restore dignity, and uplift our fellow man.

This is true charity, and we all have a moral duty to live it out.

"But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him?" —1 John 3:17
