My name is Rosa Hernandez, and I am thrilled to be running for City Council. As a dedicated City Council member, I will welcome new opportunities to continually improve the safety, comfort, and quality of life for all who call District 4 home. I believe that doing so requires intimate knowledge of what’s really important to people—something I’m keenly tuned in to as a mother, community advocate, a
nd everyday citizen who shares your hopes and concerns. Creating positive change will require patience and the collaborative spirit needed to work in harmony with our town government, police, school administrators, business owners, and other leaders. A natural-born connector, I enjoy bringing people together to accomplish common goals. Together we can improve security throughout our neighborhoods, within our schools, and beyond. If elected, I also plan to focus on ways we can future-proof our infrastructure and grow in ways that will benefit us all as a community today and tomorrow. I love spending time with my daughter, Nadia, who just entered second grade. Her safety and the safety of all of our children is one of my top priorities. I don’t believe any parent should have the worries we all carry today when sending our kids off to school each day. And so, I’ve made it my mission to work hard on improving security and fighting crime in any way possible. I currently serve on the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners and moderate as an administrator of the Facebook group, Friends of Joliet. We started the group at the start of COVID to distribute vital information and help where needed—and we’re still going strong! In addition, I was a member of the Collins Street Neighborhood council where I helped to facilitate programs and initiatives to benefit local residents. I feel so fortunate to have so many great family members, friends, and neighbors here in town. My purpose in running is to be a voice for all! I love this city and know it has so much to offer. Let’s use our collective passion for positive change to ensure our neighborhoods, schools and businesses continue to thrive. To make this reality, I’m asking for your support in this fight and your vote on April 4, 2023
