RAIN OR SHINE, THE GRADUATION STAGE IS PREPARED FOR STROM THURMOND HIGH SCHOOL’S CLASS OF 2026; IF THE CEREMONY MOVES INDOORS, GRADUATION WILL BE A TICKETED EVENT

Johnston, SC – The Edgefield County School District is ready to celebrate the sixty-fifth annual graduating class of Strom Thurmond High School (STHS) during commencement exercises for the Class of 2026, scheduled for Friday, May 29, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. on the football field at Strom Thurmond High School Stadium.

Please see the important information below related to tomorrow’s (5/29) graduation ceremony at STHS.

View Graduation Live: If you are unable to attend the graduation ceremony, or if the ceremony is moved indoors due to inclement weather, you may observe the ceremony on our live link:

Please note, inclement weather may impact the video quality of the live link.

Each graduating senior was provided with six tickets during graduation practice on Thursday (5/28) for use should Friday's ceremony be moved into the new gymnasium at STHS due to inclement weather.

Stadium gates will open at 8:00 a.m. with similar security protocols as those in place for home football games.

Please note, at 9:00 a.m. stadium gates will briefly close, and entry will be paused while our Class of 2026 graduates make their way onto the football field during the processional. Following the processional, stadium gates will reopen for additional guests.

STHS CLASS OF 2026 GRADUATION (5/29 AT 9:00 A.M.) – INCLEMENT WEATHER PLANS

We will observe the following guidelines for inclement weather tomorrow:

Slight rain or drizzle: Continue with plans as scheduled, provided the field is not saturated.

Storms and/or a Downpour Prior to the Ceremony: A final decision will be made by school administration at 8:45 a.m. whether to move the ceremony to the new STHS gymnasium or delay the start time. All possible efforts will be made to host the ceremony on the football field so that as many families and friends as possible may attend and celebrate the graduates. The order of the ceremony may be changed as needed.

Downpour(s) During the Ceremony: Continue with plans as scheduled but move through the program quickly. The order of the ceremony may change as needed.

Lightning During the Ceremony: Per Emergency Management guidelines the ceremony will end. An announcement will be made telling graduates where to report.

IN THE EVENT OF A DELAYED START TO THE CEREMONY (REMAINING OUTDOORS)

If the start of the ceremony is delayed, but remains outdoors, families and guests should remain in their cars until their senior (or the school district) notifies them of the rescheduled start time.

If the delay occurs after gates have opened, guests must either remain in their seats or return to their cars until further notification from their graduate or the school/school district.

No one is permitted to congregate under the stands or in the bathrooms.

IN THE EVENT OF A DECISION TO MOVE THE CEREMONY INDOORS

Graduation start time will be moved to 9:30 a.m.

Parents, relatives, and friends must use the provided ticket (from the six tickets issued to graduates at graduation practice) to enter the school. Every person (including infants and children) must have a physical ticket to enter the school. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS.

Thank you!

Raina’s Summer Plans: I plan to spend time with my friends and family and catch up on as much sleep as possible before college.

Raina’s Memorable Moment(s) at STHS: By far the most memorable part of my high school experience was my participation in the Mock Trial program. Through the countless competition rounds, practices, bus rides, airplane trips, and restaurant outings, the members of that team have become my second family. In addition, I will never forget the Friday night football games and competition weekends spent with the Strom Thurmond Rebel Regiment.

Raina’s Advice to Rising Seniors: I advise rising seniors to persevere through any hardships they may face and to enjoy the final moments they have in high school. The end of the year will come sooner than they can imagine, and it is important to cherish the memories they create with their peers. Senior year can be incredibly stressful, but all of their hard work will be worth it in the end.

Who has inspired her? My biggest sources of inspiration have been my parents and my peers. My parents showed me what hard work looks like, and without their support, I would not be where I am today. Additionally, my friends have been there for me through every challenge I have faced, and I could not be more grateful for the smiles and laughs they have given me in times of hardship.
