"Wa dah” in the Towa language means Green so its basically Green Gardens. It all started with an idea to provide my people with fresh, organic produce. An idea to remind people that we have to keep planting crops to protect our water rights. Keep Planting because who knows what will happen in the future. The way the system got people working its not reliable so the people have to be prepared for the worst. I was thinking all this while I was working at an Organic Farm and was inspired to start right away. I saw them growing all this food for their families and selling food to local businesses, and selling at local farmers markets. It was great! Now of course the Hemish (Jemez) people had been growing crops for hundreds of years but I wanted to take it to a next level. I wanted to grow all types of vegetables that had plenty of vitamins and nutrients. Food that would nourish a person entirely. So I created Wa dah Gardens. The first year was a complete success from beginning to end. Growing greens such as kale and chard and lots of tomatoes and onions got my name known throughout the valley. I planted enough to give food away to community, donate to local schools and senior centers, and enough to sell at the farmers market and enough for the animals to eat. I wanted to go bigger every year so 2010 i did just that. Planting more diverse crops and lots of varieties. The first time I planted Wheat, and it turned out good. I got hired to help the Walatowa Charter High School plant a couple of fields and harvest them. I would say my business has been a success so far but there is no stopping!
