Winter Storm Fern Update - 1/26/26 8:30am EST
All SKRECC crews, along with contract crews, are actively working throughout our service territory. At this time, approximately 19,000 members are without power across our system as a result of Winter Storm Fern.
When forecasts showed our area had the potential to be significantly impacted, we requested mutual aid assistance early to help additional crews begin mobilizing as quickly as possible. Mutual aid crews must first assess conditions in their own service areas before traveling, and we appreciate the strong response and support once they were able to assist.
➡️ In-state mutual aid crews are on their way,
➡️ Crews from Illinois are traveling to assist,
➡️ Additional construction crews and extra contract crews are joining restoration efforts.
This will be a multi-day restoration event. Crews are dealing with numerous broken poles, downed power lines, and fallen trees, along with hazardous conditions that can slow progress. Some areas have also received additional snowfall, making road conditions extremely hazardous. Crews are working extended hours and will continue until power is restored to every member.
⚠️ Safety is our top priority—for our crews and for our members. Please stay clear of downed power lines and allow crews the space they need to work safely. We also urge everyone to be cautious if you must be on the road today.
📌 Reminder: Our offices are CLOSED today; however, our member service representatives are working remotely and are available to assist you at 800-264-5112.
❤️ Important reminder for members who rely on oxygen or medical equipment: If your power is out and you depend on electricity for medical needs, please make alternative arrangements and contact local emergency services if necessary.
We are here for you and will continue to provide updates as restoration efforts continue. We appreciate our members’ patience and the support shown to our crews in the field.
