FoundSpace of the Jackson Hole Land Trust

FoundSpace of the Jackson Hole Land Trust FoundSpace is at the crossroads of art and conservation - linking local artists, community artmaking, and conserved public lands.

Jackson Hole Land Trust explores the nexus of art and land through FoundSpace, a project that links local artists, temporary installations, community artmaking, found objects, and conserved public land. The inaugural project in August 2015 took place in Karns Meadow and featured an interactive art installation created by the Exquisite Gardeners, local artists and community members. The Jackson Hol

e Land Trust, in partnership with the Center of Wonder, Jackson Hole Public Art, and the Cultural Council of Jackson Hole, invited the public to participate in the FoundSpace process, including attending gathers on Land Trust conservation easement protected properties to collect found objects, writing poetry on large letters in Karns Meadow, building or adding to a sculpture made of found objects at the installation, and celebrating a communal love for art and land at the closing party. In the summer of 2016, the project revolved around the Summer Solstice Celebration at R Park, a conserved public space, and featured four local returning FoundSpace artists and one new artist. The project drew community youth and adult groups together and resulted in a collaborative project which transformed R Park for the duration of the summer. In June 2017, the third iteration of FoundSpace includes five local artists (Bland Hoke, Matt Daly, Jenny Dowd, Ben Roth, and Bronwyn Minton) and will once again create installations out of gathered objects from Jackson Hole Land Trust conservation properties. This year’s installation will be at the Wilson Centennial Ponds, along the bike path between the Wilson School and the Stilson parking lot. Community gathers will take place throughout May and early June with the build event and celebration date set for June 9th at the Hardeman Meadows. The artwork will remain in place until August 14, 2017.

Using various light sensitive printmaking techniques (solar plate, cyanotype, serigraphy), Hill creates a series of hand printed fabric that are fitted to trees. Imagery printed on tapestries were captured using light and shadow, the opacity of an object or mark ultimately leaves an impression of the source behind. By wrapping the trees, we are encouraged to change our initial response and be “seen” by the natural world around us.

The Isle of Treepoli is a construct of the imagination, perched strategically in the trees atop an island. Watch out for Treepolonians, who can be seen traversing the rope bridges, peeking out of small homes and cultivating an existence amidst the trees. They welcome you to contribute small offerings or infrastructure to make connections between their world with ours.
