S.O.W & Protect Neighborhood Watch SOW & Protect is a community-based initiative to impact gun violence in Jackson, Michigan. Establishing neighborhood watches in each ward of the city.

S.O.W is an acronym representing 3 victims to gun violence Mia Sims, Shameeka Oliver, and Shawna Walker. SOW & Protect is a community-based initiative aimed at reducing gun violence in Jackson, Michigan, by establishing neighborhood watches in each ward and changing communities one neighbor at a time. We're dedicated to reducing gun violence in Jackson, Michigan. Founded in August 2025 by Servant

Pastor Shaunta M. Patton of UPCC Jackson, the initiative emerged after a tragic event in July 2025, when Pastor Patton’s niece and active church member was fatally shot outside the church during a service. Mia “Sweet” Sims, an entirely innocent victim, lost her life when her vehicle was mistakenly identified as the target in a dispute between two individuals. SOW is an acronym formed from the last names of three women—Mia “Sweet” Sims, Shameeka Oliver, and M**f Walker—who each lost their lives to gun violence. Through this initiative, their memories will be honored by fostering stronger communities, one neighbor at a time.

The suspect is accused of killing Michael Mishaw, whose body was discovered in a parking lot on East Michigan Avenue with a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

On April 20th, officers responded to a domestic situation on Chittock Ave. The suspect reportedly threatened to shoot and killer subjects in the house. He fled on foot before police arrived and fired one round in close proximity to the residence. Sergeant Thoresen located the suspect and before he made contact with him, he was observed throwing an object in the grass. He was detained and a loaded revolver with one spend round was recovered from the grass. The subject was arrested and charged with assault and weapon related offenses.

On April 16th, Officers Castro and Jones responded to a restaurant on North West Avenue for a suspicious subject in the parking lot smoking ma*****na and talking on his phone about having a gun. When they arrived, the subject was inside the restaurant. After making contact with him, he denied having a gun but gave consent to search his person. A loaded pistol was located concealed in his waistband. The subject did not have a CPL and was a convicted felon. He was arrested and charged with gun related offenses.
