Just a reminder of the night hike coming up Thursday evening June 18. We will gather in the Lake Katharine hiking parking lot ( Beaver Pike side ) at 9 pm for a one of a kind hike to explore the lake and forest on a summer night. This is a short, family friendly hike and be sure to bring a flashlight and some bug spray. Please register at [email protected] so we will have an idea of how many hikers to expect.

Secret maps…below is a photo of a hand drawn map by Eddie Jones of Camp Arrowhead at Lake Katherine. Camp Arrowhead was Eddie’ wonderful creation to utilize the lake and surrounding grounds to educate boys from all over the country about the love and appreciation of nature. The camp lasted 6 weeks every summer from 1949 to 1964. Sunday’s hike to Joy Falls is also based on another truly secret map that was discovered rolled up in the preserve office. That map - called the Legacy Map- highlights many of the interesting geologic formations around the 2000+ acres of land. Be a part of history this Sunday at 1 pm at the Derry Ormond lodge at 784 Rock Run Rd ( fishing access area) as we take an off trail adventure hike to see Joy Falls. Registration not needed but wear good traction boots. The Friends of Lake Katharine are asking for a $10 donation please.🌲🌲🌲
