Disability Voting Rights Week 2026

Join the REV UP Voting Campaign and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) for Disability Voting Rights Week, September 14–18, 2026.

This year’s theme is “Be an Accessible Democracy Defender.” The week is a nonpartisan opportunity to highlight accessible voting, share voting resources, celebrate the disability community, and promote full participation in our democracy.

The Autistic Self Advocacy Network ’s “Your Vote Counts: A Self-Advocate’s Guide to Voting in the U.S.” is an easy-to-read resource that explains what you need to know about voting—including how to vote, when to vote, and what to expect when you cast your ballot.

Accessible, easy-to-understand voting information helps people make informed choices and participate in our democracy.

Understanding voting and how to know who to vote for is an important part of living in the community. Disabled people deserve to understand how to vote.

September is World Alzheimer’s Month

This year’s theme is: “The Earlier You Know, The More You Can Do: A Dementia Diagnosis Matters.”

Early and accurate diagnosis can help people living with dementia and their families better understand what’s happening, explore treatment and support options, and make plans for the future.

In Tennessee, more than 129,000 people age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s, with approximately 393,000 family members and friends providing unpaid care.

This September, let’s raise awareness, challenge stigma, encourage conversations about brain health, and support Tennesseans living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias and those who care for them. 💜

📍 Drifter’s BBQ, Nashville
🕒 3–6 PM: Mobility device cleaning, simple repairs, reflective tape, and decorations for wheelchairs, scooters, rollators, canes, bikes, and more.
💃 6–9 PM: Disabled Dance Party with live performances and a DJ set!

The event will also offer voter education and registration support through the REV UP Disability Voting Coalition.

The Statewide Independent Living Council of Tennessee joined the community for the 36th Annual African Street Festival, hosted by the Society for African American Cultural Awareness (SAACA) over Labor Day weekend.

Between the music 🎶, food, vendors, culture, families, and celebrations, we had a great opportunity to spread the word about Independent Living in Tennessee!
