On Saturday the Jackson Area Gymnasts traveled to Coldwater for more than just a competition….they joined forces with 13 other teams for one common goal: The annual β€œStick It For A Cure” invitational. Every team donated a basket for a silent auction and then every stuck routine helped raise money for a local cancer center, supporting patients as they go through treatments by helping provide comfort, care, financial support, and encouragement when they need it most. For every stuck routine the gymnasts earned prizes, and JAG was collecting them left and right!! The gym was loud, the vibes were high, and the purpose behind this meet made it one we’ll never forget. 😎

The JHS Boys Swim and Dive team lost a tough, close dual meet last night to the league-leading Ypsilanti Railspitters by a score of 95-86. The Vikings started off the meet with a bang when the 200 Medley Relay team of Wilson Sheldon, Logan Koszegi, Tyler Gilbert and Bryce Behncke took first-place with a time of 1:50.02- just .10 ahead of Lincoln's team. The 'B' Medley of Joe Walraven, Andrew Duda, Rafael Carreon and Reid Behncke took third in a solid time of 1:53.41- allowing the Vikings to take a six-point lead after the first event. From there, Lincoln outscored the Vikings by 16 points on the next three events, taking a 10-point lead into diving. Roman Planeta helped the Vikings get back into the meet with a first-place effort in diving with a score of 119.70. The Vikings then relied heavily on their team depth to try to continue to cut into the Lincoln lead, but the Railsplitters just had too much 'first-place' speed to be able to overcome. A little bit of momentum was gained in the 500 Free, where C**t Curry (personal-best time of 5:49.58), Dylan Mineweaser (season-best time of 5:50.57) and Asher Beck combined for a 2-3-4 finish to take the event by 2 points. After a 2-3 finish in the 100 Back from Joe (personal-best time of 1:04.00) and Wilson, the Vikings gained 10 team points from a 1-3-5 finish from Logan, Andrew Duda and Shay Challapalli (personal-best time of 1:19.87.

On the night, the Vikings recorded 13 additional personal-best times, including:
Chris Anders: 50 Free, 57.54
Andrew Duda: 50 Free, 24.32
Liam Filter: 50 Free, 29.51 and 100 Free, 1:09.24
Ishaan Krosuru: 50 Free, 30.83
Reid Behncke: 100 Free, 56.38 and 50 Free, 25.60
Kyle Sykes: 100 Free, 1:12.04 and 50 Free, 33.19
Ian Verbeke: 100 Free, 56.36
Joe Walraven: 50 Back (in Medley Relay), 29.24
Wilson Sheldon: 100 Fly: 1:07.10
Logan Koszegi: 100 Fly: 57.94

The Vikings are back in action next week Thursday (Feb. 12) when they host Adrian for Senior Night.

Go Vikings!

In honor of Super Bowl Week, we would like to show appreciation to our very own, Russell Davis III, who played in Super Bowl XIV as a Pittsburgh Steeler. The Steelers defeated the Los Angeles Rams: 31-19. The students were excited to see his Super Bowl ring and hear that he was in the Super Bowl!

Thank you Mr. Davis, for all you do for our students here at Parkside! πŸ–€πŸ’›
