Ithaca needs Just Cause Labor protections to put an end to random and unjust firings! We deserve dignity in the workplace, and we deserve to keep our jobs!

With so many people struggling to afford housing and other basic necessities, sudden job loss puts Ithacans at risk of further hardship. We need to do away with at will employment and develop a way to hold the bosses accountable at the local level!

This weekend we Joined tenant organizers from across the state in NYC at the conference. We talked with many groups about their local fights and how we can pull experiences and strength from each other as we fight for tenants rights across the state. We attended workshops where we shared skills and learned about broader housing struggles happening in NY and beyond. We also voted on a statewide legislative housing platform for 2024! We even meet a family of comradely racoons!

This weekend, the Coalition for Mutual Liberation (CML), an organization made up of over two dozen student groups, staged a successful occupation of Day Hall and Willard Straight Hall. The occupation follows a week of protests across campus in support of several demands: (1) protections for students against doxing and harassment, (2) the distinction between anti-Zionism and antisemitism, and (3) divestment from Israel’s war machine. The University administration agreed to develop an anti-doxxing policy and there are promising negotiations over the other demands, follow the coalition at to get involved.

Today we joined Jewish Voice for Peace and Students for Justice in Palestine downtown to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and call for an end to the occupation and U.S. military aid to Israel. Yesterday we rallied together and took back the streets to demand that Cornell pay its fair share. Now, common council needs to stand strong, reject Cornell’s insufficient offer, and restart open negotiations to get the city of Ithaca what we need.
