“20 Years Later: The Great Picture” explores the creation of the world’s largest photograph, made in 2006 on the grounds of the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station — now the Great Park. The exhibition highlights the process, experimentation, and collaboration behind this monumental project by The Legacy Project.

Join us for the opening reception Thursday, June 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Irvine City Hall.

Oh My Sod!

We are just days away from welcoming the U.S. Men's National Team (USMNT) to the Championship Soccer Stadium at the Great Park, and our landscape maintenance and facilities teams have been getting the pitch ready.

They've completed full turf renovations, including resodding the field for the FIFA-aligned Tahoma 31 turf. Soil conditions have also been enhanced through specialized treatments to improve drainage, root growth, and overall field performance. Preventative maintenance with deep cleaning, painting, and targeted upgrades ensures field conditions, such as firmness and traction, meet elite performance standards.

Every day, the Great Park hosts community programs, athletic practices, games, and events. At the same time, we're preparing to support the national team as they compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. We are proud to host the USMNT while continuing to serve our residents and visitors daily!

The future of the Great Park honors our past.

This Memorial Day, as we pay tribute to the military heroes who gave their lives defending our nation, we’re reflecting on the Great Park’s past as Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro and highlighting the future Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum coming to the park in 2027.

The museum will serve as a place of learning and enrichment, featuring more than 40 aircraft in its collection. As the only museum solely dedicated to Marine Corps aviation, it will honor MCAS El Toro’s place in history as well as the Marines who served and those who continue to bravely serve our country.

🔨We're a step closer to providing new routes between the Great Park and the Spectrum area!

This week at the site, crews are setting temporary structures to support forms necessary to pour the concrete deck of the Marine Way box later this month. The box will form a new rail undercrossing at Marine Way.

Once complete, the project will enhance safety for pedestrians and bicyclists, support walking and biking with new connections, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by cutting down on vehicle trips.

Calling all soccer fans! ⚽

Don’t miss your chance to see the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) take the pitch at Great Park’s Championship Soccer Stadium Monday, June 8, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

The City of Irvine and USMNT invite the community to a special Community Training Session as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This free event is your only opportunity to watch the USMNT practice at the Great Park during the tournament. Tickets are required and will be awarded through a lottery system.

Community members can register for the lottery now through Monday, May 25, at 10 a.m. for a chance to receive up to two tickets per registered email address. Selected ticket applicants will be notified by email May 29.

The wait is over — the Great Park Balloon is ready to rise again. 🎈

Soar 400 feet above the Great Park and enjoy panoramic views stretching up to 40 miles on a clear day. The Balloon offers a one-of-a-kind perspective of the park and surrounding region.

Hours:
Thursday–Friday: 10 a.m.–3 p.m. and 7–10 p.m.
Saturday–Sunday: 9 a.m.–3 p.m. and 7–10 p.m.

Admission:
$10 for adults; children ride free. Cashless payment only. Flight lists fill quickly, and check-in begins 30 minutes prior to each session.

Parking is free in Lot 3. Follow posted signs to the Balloon.
