25 years ago today, our nation watched heroes run toward danger while others ran away. The firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and everyday citizens who answered the call on September 11, 2001 embodied a courage we hope never to take for granted.

Our office works alongside first responders every day - in courtrooms, at crime scenes, and in the quiet moments after the incidents that reach every member of our community. That partnership has given us a front-row seat to their sacrifice, dedication, and commitment to public safety.

Today we honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost on 9/11, including firefighters, law enforcement officers, and paramedics who gave everything. We remember the families who feel the loss every day. And we thank the first responders who continue, a quarter century later, to serve our communities with the same bravery.

We will never forget. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

To celebrate our 47th birthday this September, we are counting down 47 Reasons Why Our Work Matters.

Here is today's reason why, highlighting our University of Iowa campus services:

Have you heard about ā€˜The Red Zone’?

The ā€˜Red Zone’ refers to the period of time between the start of the fall school semester and Thanksgiving. Over half of all college sexual assaults occur during these 3 months.

DVIP/RVAP is here 24/7/365 for students and community members.

Have questions? Need help? Give us a call 24/7/365: 1-800-228-1625 or 1-800-373-1043.

Want to get involved with the work of DVIP/RVAP? There are many ways to support victim-survivors today and every day:

šŸŽ‚Donate: your donation to DVIP/RVAP directly supports victim-survivors in our eight-county service region. You can designate your donation for our general fund or in a specific way, including Sexual Assault Services. Consider making it monthly to help us plan for the families who will need safety in the years to come. Scan the QR code or check the link in bio/below to donate today.

šŸŽ‚ Volunteer: check out the link in bio or on our website to learn more about volunteering for DVIP/RVAP.

šŸŽ‚ Comment below your ā€œReason Whyā€ if you’re okay with us sharing your reason (anonymously) on social media.

šŸŽ‚ Spread the message: share our posts and talk to your friends and family about the importance of supporting victim-survivors.

Thank you for supporting DVIP/RVAP! Together, we can create a safer world for all of us.
