The best way we're going to start changing the gun laws in this country is by electing officials who will support reasonable safety measures. As such, SASS will be leading a march to the polls on Saturday, October 27th. We will have pizza afterwards.

Two people in Iowa City were shot yesterday, on Gilbert and Court. SASS hopes that the victims are recovering, and that the shooter will be subdued.

We need better gun laws in Iowa to prevent further violence like this from occurring. Call your Congresspeople and demand action against gun violence!

On Saturday, August 4, SASS is holding a rally in Iowa City in solidarity with the march on the NRA in Virginia. Join us to protest the NRA’s unfair power over us and our lives. The NRA’s gun lobby doesn’t represent the interests of most gun owners. The NRA doesn’t represent the interests of most Americans. The NRA is draining and corrupting our democracy. We must speak out to rid ourselves of extreme lobbyists’ influence on our nation and implement common-sense gun reform. We deserve safety, America.

In a Texas home and nursing home last night, four innocent people were shot, and the shooter killed himself. On a street in New Orleans tonight, three people were killed, and seven injured, by bullets. These are not the homes, not the spaces, not the streets Americans should have to inhabit. We are not safe anywhere in this country until we have stopped gun violence.

Today, another shooting has occurred; the Maryland shooting occurred over the space of ten minutes in a newsroom. Five people were killed and a few more were injured. SASS stands in solidarity with the survivors, and will continue pushing for reasonable gun legislation to stop tragedies like this one from occurring again.

SASS just sent out a very important email: a survey to determine which candidates in the Iowa general election support gun safety. We’ll grade candidates based on their answers. Who ever said grades don’t matter?

We lost eight of our own today. The children who have been lost today, and the children who were lost last week, and last month, and in the 22 school shootings so far in 2018, cannot be forgotten. The people who have fallen to senseless, preventable acts of violence cannot be forgotten. Join us on Monday May 21st at 7:30 pm on the City High Front lawn to remember the eight people who passed in the shooting in Santa Fe today, and stay with us and with them. We will keep fighting. We will not let them be forgotten.
