Iowa City Councilor Andrew Dunn Announces Resignation Effective January 1, 2025
IOWA CITY, IA – Today, Iowa City Councilor Andrew Dunn announced his resignation from the City Council, effective January 1, 2025. After serving two years on the council, Dunn expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community and work alongside colleagues to create a stronger, more resilient community.
“It has been an honor to serve the people of Iowa City and to work toward a vision of a community that exemplifies our progressive values of inclusivity, sustainability, and genuine care for one another,” said Councilor Dunn. “I am proud of the progress we have made together and am confident the council will continue to build upon these achievements.”
Dunn described the reason for his departure, “Over the last few months, my professional obligations within the labor movement have increased significantly. Heading into 2025, I expect these obligations and associated travel out of town to increase. I want to ensure that Iowa Citians get the representation they deserve.”
During his tenure, Councilor Dunn reports he is most proud of the Iowa City’s progress on making Iowa City a better place for working families by investing in affordable housing, underestimated businesses, and by creation of Iowa City Fare Free public transit.
Dunn added, “Although I am stepping down from this role, my commitment to Iowa City and its residents remains unwavering. I look forward to witnessing the continued success of our community and supporting its progress in any way I can.”
The City Council will work with city officials to address the process for filling the vacancy created by Councilor Dunn's departure. Dunn represents Iowa City District C.
