Over the weekend we held our Waymond Fermon for Indio City Council 2026 Campaign Kickoff at Soul of Mexico in Indio, and it was a great event.

Thank you to everyone who came out, to all the supporters who reached out and the Lua Family for hosting our us. This will be a long campaign year, but there is important work to continue in housing, infrastructure, public safety, homelessness solutions, and economic development for our community.

The job is never over, and Waymond is committed and ready to continue serving the people of Indio, California for another four years.

As your Mayor Pro Tem, it's been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve you and help lead our city through one of the most transformative periods in our history. Today, I’m proud to invite you to my official 2026 City Council Campaign Kickoff.

Over the past several years, I worked to bring real leadership, real investment, and real momentum to Indio. Nowhere is that more visible than in our downtown. What was once a vision is now becoming a destination, Center Stage, new businesses, community events, housing, infrastructure improvements, and a renewed sense of pride. We are just getting started.

I will be sharing my plan for the next four years, how we continue strengthening public safety, expanding economic opportunity, investing in infrastructure, energy advancement and attainable housing.

If you believe in the direction we’re going, if you believe in strong leadership, and if you believe in the future of Indio, I humbly ask for your support.

I’m extremely grateful to be elected as a Democratic delegate for Assembly District 36! These results reflect that our community and district understand my passion for working for the people, especially during times like these.

Now more than ever, we need accessible leaders with a common sense approach who are willing to put their boots on the ground and who truly understand the challenges our communities face. This mindset must be reflected across all levels of government, local, regional, state, and federal.

As an Assembly District delegate, my responsibilities include representing the Coachella Valley, cities like Indio and Coachella, all the way to Imperial County, including areas like the Salton Sea, El Centro, and Calexico, within the California Democratic Party. I vote on party endorsements, help shape the party’s platform, and work to ensure that the voices of our district are heard loud and clear. I’m ready to address these tasks head on. I’ve been dedicated and I’m committed to continuing this work.

Today, I was incredibly excited to attend my first board meeting with the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission! It's truly rewarding to be part of such an impactful organization, and I'm eager to get to work.

During the meeting, we toured the new laundry room on the Rescue Mission campus, which will not only serve the facility but also provide job and skill training for clients pursuing careers in the cleaning service industry.

I was also excited to see the progress on the new Women and Children’s Shelter, which will offer 60 beds. We gathered at the rescue mission in July of this year for the groundbreaking. Originally set to open in April, the shelter is ahead of schedule, which is fantastic news for the women and children in need of safe and supportive housing.

Here are some exciting upcoming events at the mission:

November 21st – Fill the Bus Drive

November 27th – Thanksgiving Meal Service, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

November 28th – Thanksgiving Meal Service, 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

December 19th – Toy Drive & Giveaway, 7 a.m.

I would like to welcome another exciting new business to Downtown Indio, Repairland and Sunny Sounds Recording Studio. This addition will enhance our vibrant arts and performing arts scene, complementing our festivals and the amphitheater, which is quickly becoming a musical hub for arts and entertainment. Welcome to Indio!!!

Today we celebrated the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission groundbreaking of its new Women and Children Shelter expansion. This impactful project is dedicated to supporting this vulnerable populations in the Coachella Valley. Congratulations to the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission on this significant achievement!

Wishing everyone a wonderful 4th of July. I hope you're enjoying your time with family and friends on this special holiday.

Stay safe, support our non-profits by purchasing legal fireworks. In Indio, our police will be out on patrol to ensure safety.

Please be mindful of fire hazards, your neighbors, especially those with animals and PTSD. Celebrate with peace and respect.

Don't forget, tomorrow is the 4th of July Celebration Block Party in Downtown Indio with a drone show, food, entertainment, games, and water activities.
