Labor Day weekend is here, marking the unofficial end of summer and a busy time on our roadways.

Our officers will be conducting increased patrols focused on impaired driving throughout the weekend as we work to keep our community and roadways safe.

If your plans include traveling or celebrating, buckle up, slow down, put the phone away, and never get behind the wheel impaired. Plan ahead, and designate a sober driver.

If you’re hosting a gathering, make sure all your guests have a sober ride home. If you see an impaired driver, call 911. Always wear your seat belt, it’s your best defense against impaired drivers.

The best Labor Day memories end with everyone making it home safely. We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend!

🐾 𝐕𝐏𝐃 𝐏𝐄𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 🐾

Meet Millie! Millie is a 6-year-old sweetheart who has been patiently waiting at the shelter for approximately 3½ months.

This loving girl is always ready to give kisses, enjoys the water, and seems to do well with children. Millie came into the shelter with three other dogs and appears to do well with canine friends, although a meet-and-greet is recommended. A home without cats would be best recommended.

Millie has plenty of love to give and is ready to trade shelter life for a family of her own. If you think Millie could be the perfect addition to your home, stop by the Vincennes Animal Shelter and meet her!

Help support the Vincennes Animal Shelter by helping Fill the Bus this Saturday, September 5th, during the official grand opening of Feeders Pet Supply!

The Vincennes Dog-Go will be collecting much-needed items including dog and cat food, treats, toys, cat litter, small blankets, and towels.

This is a great opportunity to come together as a community and help provide essential supplies for the animals awaiting their forever homes. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference!

September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, an opportunity to start meaningful conversations, reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, and remind those who may be struggling that support is available.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), encourages us to “Start a Conversation, Be the Difference.”

A simple check-in with a friend, loved one, coworker, or neighbor can help someone feel seen, heard, and supported.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, text “NAMI” to 62640 for additional support and resources, or contact the Green Door Crisis Center at 1-833-644-3575, available 24/7 at 300 N. 1st Street, Vincennes, IN 47591.

DANGEROUS HEAT EXPECTED THIS WEEK

With a Heat Advisory in effect starting today, and an Excessive Heat Watch in place Tuesday through Friday, several days of potentially dangerous temperatures are expected. We encourage everyone to prepare now and use extra caution throughout the week.

High temperatures can quickly lead to heat-related illness, especially for those working or spending extended periods outdoors. Stay hydrated throughout the day, take frequent breaks in air-conditioned areas, avoid strenuous activity during the hottest hours, and wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.

Please remember to check on older adults, young children, neighbors, and others who may be especially vulnerable to extreme heat.

Most importantly, never leave a child or pet unattended inside a vehicle, even for a short period of time. Vehicle temperatures can rise to dangerous levels within minutes.

Be familiar with the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Confusion, loss of consciousness, or other symptoms of heat stroke should be treated as a medical emergency—call 911 immediately.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay safe this week!

🐾 𝐕𝐏𝐃 𝐏𝐄𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐊 🐾

This week, we’re excited to introduce Ruby, a sweet 7-year-old girl with plenty of love to give!

Ruby has a gentle, loving temperament with just the right amount of energy, enjoys attention, and especially loves the water! She does well with children and seems to get along with other dogs, although she is unsure about cats.

Even better, as part of Clear the Shelter, all dog adoptions are currently just $25! If Ruby sounds like the missing piece to your family, stop by the Vincennes Animal Shelter for a meet and greet!

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Tim Kiger of SCHOTT’s production plant in Vincennes for the generous $1,000 donation to our department. This contribution will be used to support the general needs of the department and assist us in continuing to serve our community.

We’re proud to help spread the word about NBC Channel 2’s event, Clear the Shelter! Our local shelter is currently at full capacity with no empty dog kennels, and they need our community’s help. For the next week, all dog adoptions are just $25!

All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, and started on heartworm prevention.

If you’ve been thinking about adopting, now is a great time to meet one of the many deserving dogs waiting for a home.

We encourage our community to help spread the word and consider giving one of these deserving dogs a safe and loving home. Every adoption not only provides a fresh start for an animal in need, but also creates much needed space for the next animal requiring shelter and care.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Ashley and Gerilyn with Oak Village Healthcare for their kind donation of Gatorade and bottled water as part of their Hydrating Our Heroes program.

We greatly appreciate their thoughtfulness and support of our department, and we know our officers will especially appreciate having these refreshments available while working during the hot summer days. Thank you for thinking of our officers and helping keep them hydrated!

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀𝗮𝗽!

Congratulations to Officer Ryen Millsap (Badge #254) on successfully graduating from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, Class 239.

Completion of the academy is a significant professional achievement and marks an important milestone in his law enforcement career. His graduation reflects months of rigorous training, dedication, discipline, and preparation for the responsibilities of serving as a law enforcement officer.

Officer Millsap will now begin a 26-week Field Training Program (FTO). Upon successful completion, he will be released to solo patrol.

We commend Officer Millsap on this well-earned accomplishment and wish him continued success as he begins the next chapter of his law enforcement career!
