It’s time to Free Ross Ulbricht, Julian Assange, Edward Snowden and all others. And remember during Trump’s speech, HE HAD FOUR YEARS TO DO IT.

Thank you to all who supported me in getting elected as LNC Vice Chair. Although I was not selected for Chair, I am honored to serve as Vice Chair and look forward to offering my skills and experience to help make the next two years the most successful they can be.

05/26/2024

After consideration and encouragement from the hundreds of delegates who supported me for Chair of the Libertarian Party, I have decided to continue my efforts as a candidate for Vice Chair. I would be happy to work with the next LNC to build the party and support our Presidential candidate, which I look forward to selecting this evening.

After this mornings Credentials Report was amended and passed, we feel very confident the delegates are ready to repair and move forward as a political party.

I must express my deep concern regarding the recent motion to alter the composition of the Credentials Committee mere days before our convention. These actions go against the fundamental principles of a well-functioning organization.

The motion by a member of the LNC Adrian F Malagon to appoint himself to the Credentials Committee, who has shown neither intention nor commitment to attend the convention, coupled with behavior described as unprofessional and malicious, raises serious doubts about the integrity of our processes. These eleventh-hour changes risk destabilizing the committee and undermines our trust in its ability to carry out its vital responsibilities effectively.

When I am elected Chair of the LNC, these games and this type of behavior will not be tolerated.

Tonight I will be speaking with David Fite about why my experience and character will make me the best fit to repair the damage that has been done by the current LNC, and why that makes me a better choice for the Libertarian Party Chair's position than the two incumbent LNC members who serve as LNC Chair / Executive Director and At-Large / Employment Policy & Compensation Committee Chair respectively.

My opponents are both directly responsible for the current state of affairs and lackluster performance in every category the last two years, resulting in a Derivative lawsuit filed by our membership against the LNC for multiple breaches of their fiduciary duties.

It's clear that our membership has an urgent appetite for changing course.

I don't represent any caucus or faction and I'm not campaigning to expel or purge anyone. Although I have been around this party for over 25 years, I don't represent "the old guard", and this is not a take back or a do over.

My aim is to heal these divisions so that we can end the infighting, move forward as a party and get back to the business of fighting for liberty.

As a lawyer with decades of experience litigating business law and government regulations, you can count on me to be fair and impartial during meetings and to allow debate and parliamentary procedure to work things out fairly for all members of the committee, regardless of their caucus or factions, and in the best interest of our mutual mission and the duties of the LNC.

Here is my vision for the next LNC:

"As Chair of the Libertarian National Committee, Mark envisions a future where our party thrives as a beacon of liberty, unity, and effective governance. Over the next term, Mark will lead the board with integrity, transparency, and a relentless dedication to the principles that define us as libertarians.

The foremost objective must be to repair the mistakes of the past by restoring trust, accountability, and respect within the Libertarian National Committee, prioritizing open communication, constructive dialogue and collaboration, ensuring that every member's voice is heard and valued.

Rather than centralizing control within the hands of one caucus or another, Mark will work toward implementing policies and procedures to prevent overreach and micromanagement, allowing our talented staff and state affiliates the autonomy they need to excel in their respective roles with our enthusiastic support.

By focusing on strategic priorities such as ballot access, affiliate support, and effective messaging, Mark will strive to empower our local affiliates to make meaningful strides in electoral success and policy advocacy.

Central to our vision is the recognition that the strength of our party lies in its grassroots activists and candidates. Mark will work to invest in comprehensive training programs, cutting-edge technology, and innovative campaign strategies to equip our members with the tools they need to win elections and effectively communicate libertarian principles to voters in a way that we can all be proud of, again not catering exclusively to one caucus or another.

Together, we will build a Libertarian National Committee that serves as a model of effective leadership, stewardship, and advocacy for liberty. By embracing our shared vision and working tirelessly to advance our common goals, we will pave the way for a brighter future for our party and our nation."

Key Issues:

Addressing Fundraising Challenges:

As we move forward, it's essential to acknowledge the fundraising challenges that the Libertarian National Committee has faced. We recognize that missteps in data management, interruptions in LP News mailings, shifts in fundraising strategies, and messaging misfires have contributed to these challenges.

Restoring trust and confidence in our fundraising efforts is paramount. We are committed to implementing robust data management systems to ensure the integrity and security of our donor information. We will also reinstate LP News mailings promptly and provide transparent communication regarding any changes or interruptions in our fundraising strategies.

Recognizing the importance of a diversified fundraising approach, we will reintroduce direct mail fundraising while maintaining a balanced investment on digital marketing and other emerging fundraising opportunities. This ensures that we reach donors through multiple channels while optimizing our resources effectively.

Messaging:

Additionally, we understand the critical role that messaging plays in engaging donors, voters and supporters. We can be boldly committed to our principles without being repulsive and spiteful.

Moving forward, we will prioritize clarity, consistency, and alignment with our core principles in our messaging strategy. We will listen to feedback from major donors, voters, and stakeholders to ensure that our messaging resonates positively and fosters strong relationships within our community.

By addressing these challenges head-on and implementing proactive solutions, we are committed to revitalizing our fundraising efforts and securing the resources needed to advance our shared vision of liberty and prosperity for all.

Management:

As Chairman of the Board, Mark Rutherford will lead by example, championing a governance approach focused on setting strategic direction and policy oversight rather than micromanagement of staff. Mark's leadership style prioritizes empowering our talented staff to execute their responsibilities effectively while providing clear guidance and support from the board. Mark recognizes that for the Libertarian National Committee to effectively lead, that a leaner, more efficient structure will allow for clearer decision-making and greater responsiveness to our party's needs. Mark is committed to streamlining the administrative process of the Libertarian National Committee by reducing the influence or involvement of subcommittees and volunteers, while simultaneously elevating the influence and productivity of our dedicated professional staff and emphasizing support for State Affiliates without interfering with their autonomy.

By empowering our staff with the resources and support they need to excel in their roles, Mark will ensure that our organization operates with maximum effectiveness and impact, fostering a culture of trust, accountability, and collaboration.

Mark will ensure that the board operates in alignment with its proper role, allowing our staff to thrive and our organization to achieve its objectives efficiently and effectively."
