I am blessed to share that the City of Gary will be hosting a special screening of the new Michael Jackson biopic, “Michael,” for our community next week.

Michael Jackson is a crucial part of the history of the City of Gary. The imprint that he and his family have left on our community cannot be overstated, and I am grateful for the opportunity to come together with a shared sense of pride for the greatness that comes from Northwest Indiana.

The screening will be at 6 p.m. on April 13 at West Side Leadership Academy’s Mark Spencer Auditorium. Gary residents can now get free tickets at the West Side main office, YWCA of Gary, Urban League of Northwest Indiana, and Beautiful Things Boutique.

I can’t wait to see you there!

Grateful to everyone who joined us in our town hall meeting in District 3.

I truly appreciate the thoughtful conversations and the opportunity to hear directly from members of our community about the issues that matter most to them. Your voices, concerns and ideas help guide the work we do everyday.

I remain committed to listening, showing up and working together to strengthen our community and address challenges ahead.

With SEA 27 signed by the Governor, we have a real opportunity to bring the Chicago Bears, fans and economic transportation to our communities.

As a co-author of this legislation, I am excited to support it, but we must ensure that the interests of those who live, work and play in the Region are at the heart of any and every conversation moving forward.

In Lake County, when one city rises, the Region rises.

I am most grateful that both SBs 232 & 164 have passed through the House, and the bills are heading to the governor's desk.

SB 232 gives the City of Gary flexibility in selling city-owned property, and in turn gives more folks the opportunity to call Gary the place they live and work.

SB 164 requires our state to study microfarming and urban farming zones statewide, paving the way for communities all over Indiana to have access to locally owned, healthy food options.

Thank you for your continued well wishes, support and trust. I am grateful and honored to serve you.

State Sen. Mark Spencer, D-Gary, authored Senate Bill 164 and Senate Bill 232, both of which were inspired by the city and received unanimous support in their committees.

Yesterday was a significant day for our Northwest Indiana Community—on 219 day no less!

I am excited that the legendary Chicago Bears may be coming to our community: this is a testament to Northwest Indiana and its place as an economic driver of our state.

In the days ahead, I will continue fighting for Northwest Indiana and the hardworking families of the 219. From safer communities to stronger jobs, we’re making sure our region has a seat at the table!

I was grateful to serve in the Public Policy Committee today, where we reviewed HBs 1038 and 1052.

HB 1038 proposes to allow the relocation of an existing casino license in Indiana to new counties.
HB 1052 is an administrative bill that, among other things, seeks to ban certain online sweepstakes casinos in Indiana and tighten online gaming rules.

Committee work is an integral part of our legisaltive process, and I am thankful to represent District 3 on our Public Policy Committee.
