Peace Officer Memorial Week - 2026

Peace Officer Memorial Week is a time for reflection, remembrance, and gratitude. It's a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women in law enforcement who gave their lives in service to others.

In 1962, John F. Kennedy officially proclaimed Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week, establishing a national time of remembrance to honor fallen law enforcement officers and recognize their courage, service, and sacrifice.

Each year, agencies across the nation come together during this week to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, with Peace Officers Memorial Day observed annually on May 15.

Here in Iowa, we proudly honor every law enforcement officer who gave their life while serving and protecting our communities.

They were more than badges and uniforms.
They were fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, friends, and neighbors.

They answered the call to serve knowing the risks, yet stood courageously between danger and the communities they loved.

Though time moves forward, their sacrifice will never fade. Their names remain etched not only on memorial walls, but in the hearts of those who continue the watch today.

During Peace Officer Memorial Week, we honor their legacy, remember their families, and give thanks for the men and women who continue to wear the badge with courage, integrity, and selflessness every day.

May we never forget the fallen.
May we always support those who continue to serve.

💙🖤 End of Watch, Never End of Honor. 🖤💙

National Correctional Officer Week
May 3 - May 9, 2026

During National Correctional Officers Week, we take time to recognize the men and women who serve in one of the most challenging and often overlooked roles in public safety.

Correctional officers work behind the walls of jails and prisons, maintaining order, ensuring safety, and upholding the integrity of the justice system. Their work demands constant vigilance, professionalism, and strength, often in environments where the stakes are high and recognition is limited.

This week is more than a simple thank you. It is a recognition of sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering commitment. To every correctional officer who shows up each day with courage and dedication, your work matters, your role is vital, and your impact is felt even when it goes unspoken.

We are grateful for your service, your strength, and your commitment to keeping both staff and the public safe.
