Today we celebrate the passing of a dear friend to us all and a life so very well lived.

As we gather for Microwave Dave’s funeral service today at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, we want to gently remind everyone that this is a historic and intimate sanctuary, and seating is very limited. We expect the space to fill quickly.

This is a formal liturgical service, and out of respect for the church and Dave’s family, we ask that there be no photography or filming during the service.

We know how many people love Dave and want to be present. If you are unable to attend or if the sanctuary reaches capacity, please know that we will soon gather again for Microwave Dave’s Graduation Celebration, a larger community event where we can lift up his legacy with the music, laughter, and joy he gave so freely.

Today, we honor a magnificent human.

The service will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Nativity, located at 208 Eustis Avenue, Huntsville, AL 35801, on Saturday, February 28 at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow the service.

Soon, we will share more information about Microwave Dave’s Graduation Celebration. This will be another opportunity for our community to gather, remember Dave, and honor his remarkable life.

The Microwave Dave Music Foundation and Dave’s family are deeply grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love for our beloved Microwave Dave. Seeing our city, its leaders, and so many friends and neighbors share memories and gratitude has been incredibly meaningful.

We are all taking a little time to process this profound loss and to hold one another close. Soon, we will share more information about Microwave Dave’s Graduation Celebration, a gathering named for Dave’s belief that death is a graduation. This will be a time for us to all come together to remember our friend and honor his extraordinary life.

We are truly grateful to the City, the Music Office and to Mayor Battle for all of the support and love expressed for Dave and to ths foundation.
There is a void that will be hard to fill but as he would put it - "He has graduated!" The stars are shining bright tonight!

Huntsville has lost a giant in the music scene with the passing of renowned bluesman, Dave Gallaher.

He believed deeply in music education, worked tirelessly to support our schools, and made sure young people had access to instruments and opportunity. It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that the Microwave Dave Music Education Foundation announces the passing of a true legend and a very dear friend to both our local community and the blues world at large, Microwave Dave Gallaher.

A master of the blues and a pillar of our community, Dave didn’t just play the music; he lived it. He walked through life guided by his faith and anchored by his convictions. On stage, Dave had a way of making his guitars sing and weep in the same breath, guiding us all through a musical blues experience that only he could conjure.

While his talent was unquestionable, his ultimate joy was found in the classroom. Nothing made Dave smile quite like seeing school children light up with amazement as he and The Nukes ripped through a set. He was a man on a mission to instill a lifelong passion for music and education —the very thing that defined his own journey.

Though he was a master of his craft, Dave remained profoundly humble and kind. To everyone who knew him, his warmth, generosity, and wit were just as legendary as his signature slide work. The music may have paused last night , but the star and heavens will shine a little brighter as Dave’s soul and his voice will continue to resonate in our hearts—and in the lives of the students he inspired—forever.

We know he is “Talkin’ and Singing the Blues” now on a much grander stage.

Every $5 donation or purchase of Microwave Dave Day merchandise will provide an opportunity to take the guitar home. The giveaway will take place around 6 p.m. Sunday, and the winner will have to be present.
