We are saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Silverman today. Steve was a longtime fire photographer in the town of Huntington and a good friend to all Firefighters and EMS personsl, as well as brother of Life Member Ex-Chief Drew Silverman.

Steve captured us on calls with his photo skills and was regularly featured in the local media. Steve was an Honorary Member of the Centerport, Melville and Dix Hills Fire Departments. He a was also the Public Information Officer for Suffolk County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services. He will be missed.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Chief Silverman and his family.

Rest in Peace Steve.

To our Friends and Neighbors,

Our volunteer membership continues to be available to respond to emergencies, but we ask that you follow these precautions during the COVID-19 outbreak.

If you are quarantined (mandatory or self-imposed) in your home due to possible or confirmed COVID-19 exposure, you must notify 911 when you call and advise the dispatcher of your situation.

We also ask that you place a sign/note on your front door to alert our Emergency Medical Service (โ€œEMSโ€) personnel. We will then take infection-prevention precautions before entering your home or business.

We need to protect our crews so that they will be able to continue to meet the emergency needs of our community. Elsewhere, there have been entire EMS organizations quarantined after they responded to quarantined homes and were not alerted before entering. Those first responders are now unavailable to help anyone for at least 14 days.

Depending on the type of call, our responders may be in full protective equipment including masks, goggles, gown and gloves. This is done for your protection and ours. If you have any children at home, you may want to explain this to them ahead of time, so they can remain calm.

We also ask that if you see an ambulance by your neighbors house; Please Stay Away. Please do not approach the ambulance, the first responders or the family members, as this will help to reduce the spread if the patient does have a communicable disease.

We ask that you call only if you have a true emergency and most importantly please stay calm and be patient. All agencies are doing their best to serve and protect the needs of all residents in our area, and we remain committed to our Huntington residents.

To those who are not feeling sick or currently experiencing an emergency, we remind you that your best bet is to keep yourself safe and to practice the following:

-Wash your hands with soap and hot water often for at least 20 seconds โ€“ Donโ€™t cough/sneeze into your hands โ€“ Donโ€™t touch your face โ€“ Wash your hands again and again.

Stay Safe!

The Chiefs, Officers, and Members of the Huntington Community First Aid Squad.
