But somewhere along the way, we have to remember to enjoy the life we’re working so hard to create.

Today, I came to the river to fish. Duece the “Riverdog” had a different agenda. 😂🏈 Perfect for this family, he loves football too 💙🩶

The river was peaceful.
The fishing was relaxing.
And then the Texas backwoods soundtrack kicked in. 😂😳

Another 📝Riverstead lesson from the garden today. We planted this cane from an organic grocery-store cane a few years ago. Testing to see if it would survive our Texas sandy soil.

A couple years later, it’s still growing despite the hot, drought conditions.

And today, while cleaning out all the dried leaves and the mess around it, I was reminded:
growth can still happen underneath the mess 🙌🏾😍

Don’t grow weary, your harvest is coming. ~Galatians 6:9

Grateful the river here remains calm after the storm. 🌊❤️

A few days after Tropical Storm Edouard, we’re taking a moment to appreciate the stillness—the quiet water, and the cloudy skies.

But while we enjoy this peaceful view, we’re mindful that not everyone will experience a storm the same way.

Praying for those whose homes, communities, and lives have been impacted by flooding. 🙏🏾

Storms remind us how quickly things can change. They also remind us not to take the calm moments for granted.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

Today, we’re choosing gratitude in the calm and compassion in the aftermath.

He lost his favorite ball in the river… and he was NOT leaving without it. 😂🌊🐕

It took a couple tries, but Riverdog figured it out and finally got his ball back. I didn’t catch the exact moment he grabbed it, but I caught the important part—him coming back to shore and immediately finding some shade to protect his prize. 😂

📝Riverstead lesson: Sometimes you have to try again. Be persistent until you get it back. Somethings are worth fighting for🙏🏾❤️

10 years ago, we took the typical American family road trip.❤️

At the time, we were simply making memories—seeing the Grand Canyon, exploring, laughing, and spending time together.

But we also wanted our children to understand that there was a time when enjoying some of these places wasn’t equally accessible to everyone.😢

So we don’t take the opportunity to travel, explore, and experience this country together for granted.🙏🏾

We remember the history. 🤎♥️💚We celebrate the progress yet prayers for the pursue of happiness for all.🙏🏾

Because one day, these pictures won’t just remind us of where we went. They’ll remind us of our memories together.

🌊 Lake Houston is getting a $50 MILLION flood-dredging district and its FIRST public meeting is just now happening? 👀

Okay, Lake Houston, Humble, Kingwood and everybody downstream. This is one we need to pay attention to.

The Lake Houston Dredging and Maintenance District was created by Texas lawmakers back in May 2025 to tackle something residents around here know entirely too well.

Flooding. Sand. Sediment. And the constant need to keep Lake Houston’s waterways moving.

The district was approved with $50 MILLION in initial funding, split into two $25 million installments for 2025 and 2026.

And now, more than a year after the district was created, it is holding its first public meeting Monday, August 24.

So naturally, I have questions. 😂

What exactly is the plan for that $50 million?

Where are we dredging first?

Which neighborhoods and waterways are considered the highest priority?

How much actual dredging does $50 million buy?

And maybe the biggest question residents deserve answered:

When will people actually be able to SEE the difference?

Because when you live in an area that has experienced serious flooding, “we created a district” is nice.

We want to know when the dirt starts moving. 👀

At Monday’s meeting, officials are expected to discuss bylaws, project scopes, maps, costs, funding plans and project milestones. Residents will also have an opportunity to comment.

🌊 If you had control of that $50 million, where would dredging be your FIRST priority?

And for those of you who have lived through Harvey and other flooding events.

Do you feel like enough has changed around Lake Houston since then, or are we still moving too slowly? 👀

Because $50 million is a serious investment.

Now we need to see what it actually does.
