Last night, Sid Miller once again proved he is our Texas Agriculture Commissioner because of his deep experience, knowledge, wisdom, and command of a wide array of issues that only comes from a lifetime working the land. His opponent once again showed Texas that he is not, nor will he ever be, ready for prime time.

Commissioner Miller showed himself a gentleman by refusing to engage on the falsehoods and distortions which represent the whole of Sheets’ campaign message. Texas voters know Sid Miller and his record. They also know a lie when they hear it.

From his lack of policy knowledge to his lack of understanding of the TDA’s core functions, Sheets is a post turtle, leaving all of us wondering how on earth he got there.

His attacks on our great Go Texan partners show his ignorance and contempt for Texas producers, small business owners, and Texas agriculture, the same contempt he showed when he sold his Texas honey business to a New York-based international hedge fund.

The Commissioner also reminded the audience that the fight against radical Islam isn’t just about culture; it’s a political project to destroy American Christianity and Judaism. That is where our focus and energy must remain. Fighting about public calls to prayer or Islamic food preparation is like picking fly droppings off a steak. The whole steak is rotten.

Despite constant media inquiries, the campaign will not be speaking further on the recent revelations about Sheets’ addictions to s*x, alcohol, and po*******hy, or his illicit affairs while in ministry, resulting in his untimely dismissal.

While all Texans should know he withheld this information while presenting himself not as a fallen man, redeemed by the blood of Christ, but as a paragon of virtue and ministerial zeal, it is between him, his family, and God. We ask only that the media respectfully hold him to the same standard to which they hold all other Republicans.
