This Labor Day, we honor the hardworking people whose dedication strengthens families, neighborhoods and communities across Montgomery & Harris Counties.

At Community Legal, we believe that access to justice should not depend on a person’s ability to pay. We are proud to stand with low-income neighbors facing critical civil legal challenges - helping protect their families, finances and peace of mind.

Today, we celebrate the dignity of work and remain committed to ensuring that every member of our community has access to the legal help they deserve.

You are not your legal problems.

When legal challenges involve your children, your safety, your home, or your future, they can feel all-consuming. Court dates, paperwork, unanswered questions, and difficult conversations can make it seem as if the legal process is your whole life.

But it is not.

A legal problem is something you are facing. It is not who you are. You are more than a case number, a court filing, or one difficult chapter. You are a parent, a neighbor, a friend, and a person deserving of dignity, compassion, and care.

At Community Legal, we want our clients to know they are not alone . . . and they never have to walk through the process alone. We are here to help lift legal burdens so individuals and families can move forward with greater confidence, stability, and peace of mind.

September is Su***de Prevention Month.

At Community Legal, we believe every person facing hardship deserves to be met with dignity, compassion, and care. This month, we stand with individuals, families, advocates, and communities working to increase awareness of mental health illnesses and help prevent su***de.

Checking in, listening without judgment, and reminding someone they are not alone can make a meaningful difference. Together, we can build a more compassionate and connected community.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 for the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Help a neighbor protect their legacy.

Community Legal is recruiting volunteer attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and community members for our upcoming Montgomery County Wills and Estates Legal Clinic. Whether you can provide legal assistance, help with hospitality and organization, or simply offer a warm conversation or prayer while clients wait, there is a meaningful place for you on our team.

Volunteer attorneys will provide one-on-one assistance to Community Legal clients who might not otherwise have access to these critical services. Depending on the client’s needs, volunteers may consult with clients; prepare basic estate-planning documents from our form bank, including wills, durable powers of attorney, medical powers of attorney, and transfer-on-death deeds; and explain the documents.

You will be supported by intake staff, notaries, and witnesses, so you can focus on serving clients with skill and care. Paralegals and legal assistants are also needed, and hospitality volunteers are welcome to bring snacks and refreshments, assist with organization, or spend time visiting with and encouraging clients.

There is plenty of parking, and food and drinks will be provided.

A new chapter. The same heart.

A message from our Founder and Executive Director, Deb Hubbs:

"So we are starting a new chapter . . .
We are still rooted in Isaiah 58, and we still offer prayer, hope and legal help to anyone who walks through our door. It is simply a new name, and one that makes clear all of our neighbors are welcome.
It is the same mission - still rooted in faith; and still community, for community. Just now known as Community Legal."

We are so grateful for every person who has walked alongside this mission - as a client, a volunteer, a donor, a prayer partner, or simply a neighbor who shared our posts.

This name is for you. And for every neighbor who hasn't found us yet.

Here's one of the easiest ways to help Community Legal . . . and it costs absolutely nothing. 💛

Not everyone has money to spare or time to volunteer. We completely understand that. But there's something you can do right now, from wherever you are, that makes a real difference:

Like. Comment. Share.

Here's why it matters more than you might think: when you interact with our posts, the algorithm shows our content to more people. That means a neighbor who needs legal help - but doesn't know we exist - might finally see us. A caregiver who's been struggling alone might find out that free help is available. A volunteer attorney might discover a way to put their skills to work.

Every like is a signal. Every comment is a boost. Every share is a neighbor we might reach who we couldn't have reached otherwise.

So if you've ever thought "I wish I could do more" — this is something. This is real.

Follow us here on Facebook, find us on Instagram () and LinkedIn (Community Legal), and share our posts with anyone in your life who might need us or who might want to help.

Thank you for being part of this community. 🌿

Do you know an organization that serves people who might need legal help? We'd love to connect.

Community Legal partners with churches, nonprofits, and community organizations across our region to help more neighbors access free civil legal assistance with dignity and care.

Here's the reality: many of the people who need legal help most are already being served by someone else. A food pantry. A domestic violence shelter. A school. A church. A social services program. They're already in relationship with your organization — they just don't know that free legal help is available to them too.

That's where a partnership with Community Legal makes a real difference.

Here's what partnership looks like:

⛪ Churches & Faith Communities — Host a legal clinic or informational session, connect congregants to legal help, or support outreach within your community.

🤝 Nonprofits & Community Organizations — Refer neighbors to Community Legal, share our resources, or collaborate on joint outreach and community education efforts.

Partnerships are flexible and designed to meet real community needs. We're not here to duplicate what you're already doing — we're here to fill a gap that's often invisible until someone desperately needs it.

Our partnerships are built on mutual respect, clear communication, and a shared commitment to serving those in need. And our services are always free to the people we serve.

If your organization regularly serves individuals and families who might benefit from civil legal assistance, we'd love to start a conversation.

We have some exciting news to share . . . and a story behind it worth telling.

In 2018, we started this legal mission with a simple conviction: that caring for the poor, the widow, the orphan, and the immigrant was also a call for attorneys to put their skills to work for neighbors who needed access to justice.

What began as Community Gospel Justice Center became Community Christian Legal Aid. And over the years, it grew from a simple clinic with free consultations and prayer into a full legal organization - with dedicated volunteers, paid staff, and attorneys who walk alongside our neighbors through some of the hardest seasons of their lives . . . especially the children. They are the ones who benefit most when a caregiver finally has stable ground to stand on.

Two years ago, we asked our neighbors across the state what the name "Community Christian Legal Aid" meant to them. The results were clear: most people believed we only served Christians.

We sat with that for a long time - in prayer and in conversation.

Because the truth is, we have always served everyone who walks through our door. We offer prayer, hope, and legal help to anyone who needs it. And we never want a child to stay in an unsafe home because a caregiver didn't know this was for them too.

So we are starting a new chapter.

We are now Community Legal.

Same mission. Same faith roots. Same Isaiah 58 conviction that justice and community are inseparable. Just a new name . . . one that makes clear: every neighbor is welcome here.

Community, for community.

Volunteers are the backbone of Community Legal - and we mean that!

Every free legal clinic we host. Every fundraiser we organize. Every community event where someone walks up and says, "I didn't know help like this existed" . . . none of it happens without our volunteers.

Our volunteers show up in so many ways:

⚖️ Attorney volunteers who donate their Saturday mornings to sit across from a neighbor in need and say, "Let's figure this out together."

📋 Legal Aid Clinic and Event volunteers who set up chairs, greet guests, prayer with clients, stuff envelopes, and make sure every detail is handled so our team can focus on the people we serve.

💛 Fundraiser supporters who help us raise the resources that keep our doors open and our clinics running — because free legal help isn't free to provide.

🤝 Community connectors who spread the word, share our posts, and make sure the grandmother down the street or the single mom in their neighborhood knows that help is available.

Without volunteers, we simply could not reach our community the way we do. They are not just helpers . . . they are partners in justice.

If you've ever volunteered with us: thank you. You are the reason we can do what we do.

And if you've been thinking about getting involved - - we'd so love to have you. Whether you're a licensed attorney, a law student, or simply someone who wants to give back, there's a place for you at Community Legal.
