The City of Deer Park Emergency Services department seeks to provide time sensitive and critical emergency preparedness information.

The Office of Emergency Management is responsible for coordinating the City of Deer Park's preparation for and response to emergency or disaster situations internally and externally both natural and manmade. The term emergency means a set of circumstances which demand immediate action to protect life, preserve public health or essential services, or protect property. Disaster means the situation is beyond the capabilities of the responding jurisdictions or organizations.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms associated with the outer bands of Tropical Storm Bertha are expected today. The region is under a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for severe weather, with potential impacts including damaging wind gusts, brief heavy downpours, and frequent lightning.

⚠️ WEATHER UPDATE: Tropical Storm Bertha ⚠️
Bertha is currently moving west across southeast Louisiana and is expected to continue toward the Texas coast over the next 24 to 36 hours. The storm is weakening due to strong wind shear and dry air. It may degrade into a tropical depression or an open wave before reaching Texas on Thursday afternoon or evening. Minimal impacts are expected to Deer Park and the surrounding area.

What to Expect:
‣ Wind: Breezy coastal conditions with gusts between 15–30 mph.
‣ Rain: Scattered rain bands are possible late Thursday into Friday. The highest rain chances are currently projected further south toward Matagorda Bay.

⚠️WEATHER UPDATE: TROPICAL STORM BERTHA HAS FORMED⚠️

Tropical Storm Bertha officially formed overnight, with winds around 50 mph.

Bertha is traveling NW at around 3 mph, but expected to turn WNW/W over the next 24 hours. It is tracking along the southern Louisiana coast Thursday and approaching the upper Texas coast by Friday into Saturday. Minimal impacts currently expected for Deer Park and the surrounding area.

Hostile wind shear is pushing nearly all thunderstorms, heavy rain, and gusty winds to the south side of the storm, keeping the heavy weather offshore. Bertha is likely near peak strength now and is expected to weaken as it moves west. It may degenerate into a simple wave along the LA coast before reaching Texas.

🌧️ What to Expect Locally:

Wednesday – Friday: Outer rainfall bands may begin brushing coastal areas late Wednesday night. Shower and thunderstorm chances will uptick along the coast and inland into SE TX on Friday.

Minimal local impacts expected as the bulk of the adverse weather remains offshore.

🚨 CITIZEN ADVISORY | TRAFFIC DELAYS & POWER OUTAGE 🚨

Please be advised of an ongoing incident in the area of Spa Drive and Center Street. An 18-wheeler has struck a power line, resulting in live, downed wires and a localized power outages.

Spa Drive is currently closed between Center Street and Pickerton Drive. Please avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

The shopping strip in the approximate 4200 block of Center Street is currently without power.

⚠️ There are live, downed power lines on the ground. Do not attempt to drive or walk near the affected area.

City teams are actively coordinating with the Deer Park Fire Department and CenterPoint Energy to safely clear the hazards and restore power. TXDOT is also en route.

Current local impacts remain minimal; according to the Harris County Flood Warning System, the maximum rainfall over the last 6 hours in Deer Park is only 0.68 inches, recorded in the northern part of the city. The National Weather Service has upgraded the disturbance in the Gulf to a Tropical Storm. Tropical Storm Arthur is the first named storm of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Arthur is expected to move across the upper Texas coast and into Louisiana this evening. While the heaviest downpours from this morning’s coastal convergence zone are weakening, additional scattered showers, thunderstorms, and localized street flooding remain possible south of I-10 through the afternoon, along with wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph (and up to 40 mph in passing squalls). As Arthur exits tonight, building high pressure will rapidly shift our focus to extreme heat, with heat index values soaring between 102 and 108 degrees on Thursday and up to 112 degrees by Friday, likely requiring official heat advisories.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for our area. However, according to the Harris County Flood Warning System, current local impacts remain manageable, with a maximum recorded rainfall of 2.36 inches in southern Deer Park and 2.16 inches in the northern part of town.

This warning comes as a weak and poorly organized tropical low-pressure system moves northeast along the upper Texas coast today before heading toward Louisiana tonight. A band of heavy rainfall developed across southeastern Harris County this morning along a coastal convergence zone. While these storms are expected to weaken after sunrise, additional scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible throughout the day. An additional 1 to 3 inches of rainfall is possible in areas south of I-10, creating a localized risk of street flooding, though overall risk of severe flash flooding has decreased across the region.

Expect gusty conditions of 20 to 30 mph today, with occasional gusts up to 40 mph during passing rain squalls, before winds decrease this evening. As this system exits tonight, building high pressure will bring a rapid shift toward extreme heat starting Thursday and lasting into the weekend. High temperatures in the mid-90s, combined with very wet grounds and high humidity, will push heat index values between 102 and 108 degrees on Thursday, and up to 112 degrees by Friday. Official heat advisories may be required. Residents should prepare to prioritize heat safety practices late this week.

Deer Park Office of Emergency Management is actively monitoring Potential Tropical Cyclone One, which is forecasted to become a tropical storm. A National Weather Service Flood Watch is in effect for our area through Thursday morning due to extremely high atmospheric moisture levels. While rainfall has been minimal today, with .36 inches over the last 24 hours and no flooding reported in Deer Park, heavy tropical downpours are expected tomorrow, bringing a strong possibility of street and localized flash flooding.

Current NOAA forecasts indicate the storm's center will remain just off the coast before moving inland near the Texas-Louisiana border late Wednesday or Thursday. Although the most severe impacts are expected to stay east of our area, the system is large enough to bring heavy tropical moisture and high-wind corridors to the upper Texas coast.
