Yesterday Socialist Alternative took the streets with 1000+ Houstonians to protest ICE’s presence across the nation. Following two weekends of strike action taking place in the Twin Cities, protests have erupted across the nation. However, the episodes of brutality are seemingly unending.

Protests are not enough, it is time to take the necessary step forwards and wield the greatest weapon the working people have: withholding their labor. It’s time to bring the Minneapolis strikes coast to coast. It’s time to organize a nation wide strike!

Over 100 Houston workers gathered at city hall in solidarity with the people of Minneapolis and the one-day general strike.

We also reflect on the brutal state-sanctioned murder of Alex Pretti, only two weeks after Renee Nicole Good was murdered by an ICE officer and the day after the largest general strike this nation has seen in over 80 years.

To continue this momentum and to fight against the advances of Trump, ICE, and the right-wing, join us for our organizing meeting. Thursday, January 29th, 7:00pm at the Montrose Center.

We demand:
•ICE out of Minneapolis and everywhere!
•Jail Johnathon Ross and the agents that killed Alex Pretti!
•END ALL DEPORTATIONS! Immediate, unconditional legalization and equal rights for all undocumented immigrants, regardless of their job status!

Minneapolis is under brutal ICE occupation, which has resulted in the murder of Renee Good, the barbaric detention of over 1,000 immigrants, and terror across the entire city.👏 In response, a coalition of unions and other organizations have issued a call for a one-day strike across Minneapolis on Friday, January 23! 👏

This is precisely the escalatory step we need if our movement hopes to score a decisive victory against Trump’s deportation machine. Join us in Houston to stand with Minneapolis and demand ICE OUT FOR GOOD!

Last Saturday Socialist Alternative showed up to support the national call to action alongside hundreds of other Houstonians to stand up against Trumps wars, both national and international. Millions of working class folk are flooding the streets to protest the administrations cruel and inhumane immigration operations.

With the domestic threats of ICE at home, and the international threats of imperialism in Venezuela escalating now is the time to get organized and unequivocally stand against the mass deportations and border expansions. Our frontlines in fighting against these points of attack are in our communities and schools.

Socialist Alternative members are proud to walk the picket and support the workers in their struggle against the bosses at Hilton.

Pictures from the Socialist Alternative table on fighting against Trump's deportations, outside Go Tejano Day at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The only people benefitting from Trump are billionaires and corporations. The same thing was true under Biden, Trump 1.0, Obama, and every other capitalist politician. The only way billionaires, corporations and their two parties maintain control is by keeping working-class people divided.

The only way to unite the working class into a coherent force that can fight for its own interests is to link the fight against deportations (and every other form of oppression), to a wider program that actually improves life for working class people. Immigrants being afraid to go to the hospital or trans people being denied gender-affirming care won’t make healthcare cheaper for everyone else. An injury to one is an injury to all. The only way forward is a struggle fighting for workers everywhere, including immigrants.
