Conditions will be somewhat favorable for the development of a brief tropical depression or tropical storm Wednesday-Thursday over the NW Gulf.

Regardless of development, the primary concern remains periods of heavy rainfall and flash flooding. Though heavy rainfall is possible areawide (SE Texas), the highest risk of flash flooding over the next few days will be across our southern and coastal counties.

A Flood Watch is in effect for all of SE TX through early Wednesday. Periods of heavy rain are expected as a weak front stalls across the area and combines with deep tropical moisture. There is a low chance for tropical development over the NW Gulf late Tue/Wednesday.

Another warm day on Sunday, with highs in the 90s and "feels like" temps in the 100s. Make sure to stay safe: hydrate, wear light clothing, and wear sunscreen. A round of showers/thunderstorms arrives Sunday with the highest chances for storms starting in the early afternoon.

The heat continues today with heat indices as high as the mid 100s F (~40 C). Remember to take breaks in the AC/shade and drink plenty of water if you will be out today. We'll have a little breather Mon/Tue (it'll be rainy instead) but the heat comes back again mid next week.

We have a few coastal hazards: a high risk of rip currents this weekend. Make sure to check beach conditions and know what to do if caught in a rip current.
Minor coastal flooding near high tide cycle will also cause some minor flooding or close low lying roads.

We still are monitoring the distrubance in the gulf - while it has a low (20%) chance of formation, regardless it will bring additional moisture to the area which could lead to heavy rainfall in the area early next week. Just keep an eye on the forecast for now.
Because of this tropical moisture, we'll have a slight risk of heavy rainfall especially on Monday, although we have a marginal risk on Sunday and Tuesday as well. Overall rain totals of 1-3+ inch are possible, but again stay tuned to the latest forecast.

The heat goes on this weekend, with high temps in the 90s and "feels like" temps reaching 100-105 F. Make sure to stay safe by staying hydrated, spending less time outdoors, and wearing breathable clothing. On Saturday, expect isolated showers/storms through the afternoon.

The heat will continue to persist through the weekend. If you will be outdoors today, remember to take breaks in the shade or indoors w/ AC, drink plenty of water and know the signs of heat illness. Take extra care if you are sensitive to heat or not used to it.
In addition, a high risk of rip currents continues through this morning. Although the risk drops slightly, continue to be vigilant, check the beach conditions before entering water, and know what to do if you get caught in a rip current.
