We all have a song that stands out in our mind as the theme song to summer. The theme song to riding in a cool car with the windows down on a hot day, a theme song to creating your own breeze and feeling like the world was a perfect place for those three and a half minutes. Inside the bars of the song, you feel complete; you understand the world and your own passion. For AJ Santana that song was “Fly Like an Eagle” and he felt those things riding shotgun in his dads Camaro, that was where he fell in love with music. AJ has been playing music in Houston for the better part of 12 years, he attributes some his success to the city its self. He says “Most of the reason I can [play music here] is because Houston is so big I can hit five venues a week every week and not burn out my audience. The opportunities here are amazing.” Recently AJ started hosting The Murder of Crows Shows to spotlight the art and music scene in Houston, which he felt was under appreciated. He wanted to give Houston musicians and artists a voice, a platform to show their work.
AJ currently has out an EP called Dear Darla, the goal of which is to connect with his audience and to tell a story; and as a storyteller, he asks his audience “Do you feel what I feel? Can we relate on this level?” he wants all artists to have that opportunity that is why Murder of Crows features original music and art from the best Houston has to offer.
