The College Republicans at Texas State (TXSTCR) is the largest and most involved political student organization on campus. Founded in 1985, TXSTCR is a federated member of the statewide Texas College Republicans organization—an official auxiliary of the Republican Party of Texas—and is recognized by the College Republican National Committee. Over the years our members have secured internships in t
he Texas House of Representatives, the United States House of Representatives, the United States Senate, leading conservative think tanks, and numerous campaigns from the county level all the way up to statewide and national races. TXSTCR members gain hands-on experience working with local, statewide, and national political campaigns. The opportunities TXSTCR provides its members serve as lifelong resources in leadership, grassroots activism, and political and professional networking. Don’t think TXSTCR is only for those who are interested in a career in politics. Among the many events TXSTCR members attend each year, the most exciting is our annual trip to Washington, DC, to attend the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). The conference, hosted each February by the American Conservative Union, is attended by more than 10,000 of the nation's most prominent conservative leaders. CPAC is the leading conservative event of the year, drawing names such as Ann Coulter, Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Rush Limbaugh, Allen West, Marco Rubio, Daniel Hannan, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, George Bush, Rick Sa****um, and many more. TXSTCR hosts several of its own events on campus, including policy demonstrations in the Quad (Affirmative Action Bake Sales, Occupy An Occupation, Liberals ♥ Big Government on Valentines Day,
etc.), memorials for the victims of 9/11, collection services to send care packages to troops serving overseas, and mock presidential debates (which are both humorous and informative). Off campus, TXSTCR participates in philanthropic events, such as providing Christmas presents to children in need, and participating in Bobcat Build, one of the largest community service initiatives in Texas.
