Summer should be a time for kids to play — not a season of impossible choices for parents. At Main Street Ministries we see how poverty is an everyday problem: when school ends, families living paycheck-to-paycheck lose reliable meals, face sky-high daycare costs, can’t afford camp, and endure longer or costlier commutes for work or programs. Parents juggle unpredictable schedules, exhausted from finding safe places for their children, stretching every dollar for food, and missing work when childcare falls through. The hidden toll is stress, shame, and fewer opportunities for kids to learn and socialize.
We can help. Support local summer meal programs, volunteer or donate to community childcare and youth centers, and push for policies that expand affordable childcare, summer meal access, and reliable transit for families. Main Street Ministries is working with neighbors and partners to fill these gaps — but we need your help. No parent should have to choose between feeding their child and keeping a job.
