Vision & Gratitude

Today, I’m filled with gratitude and excitement as I step into a new leadership role with Main Street Ministries.

I am deeply thankful for the trust and confidence that has been placed in me, and I do not take this responsibility lightly. As we look ahead, I am committed to helping MSM grow stronger and increase its impact to better serve our community for years to come.

Most importantly, I know this work is bigger than any one person. It will take shared vision, collaboration, faith, and the dedication of many people who care deeply about our mission.

Thank you to everyone who has supported, encouraged, and believed in me along this journey. I am excited for what lies ahead and honored to serve alongside such an amazing community.

Exciting Leadership Announcement!

The Board of Directors of Main Street Ministries is excited to announce the appointment of Esmeralda Reyes as its new Executive Director.
 
Esmeralda brings more than 30 years of nonprofit experience and a deep commitment to helping individuals and families discover pathways out of poverty. 

Specifically, she has served at Main Street Ministries for the past 10 years growing from Office Manager to Program Manager, Director of Programs, and most recently Interim Executive Director.

“For the past 10 years at Main Street, I have had the privilege of witnessing staff, volunteers, partners, donors, and, most importantly, the people we serve, discover their worth, find a sense of belonging, and realize that they have the power to make their community stronger.” Esmeralda Reyes

What a blessing it has been to see how God has used Esmeralda over this time and has raised her up to lead Main Street.

Esmeralda’s appointment represents both a new chapter and a continuation of the heart of Main Street Ministries of meeting people where they are, believing in what is possible, and creating pathways toward a stronger future.  We look forward to this next season of growth and impact under Esmeralda’s leadership.

Main Street Ministries presents “Money Matters” — a hands-on workshop led by Ward for RTI (Refined Technologies, Inc.), a Houston for‑profit company, whose belief is “we operate from a sense of eternal purpose”

The participants/RTI employees will explore:
- Behavioral Awareness: uncover personal money habits and the real cost of day‑to‑day choices
- Class Cultures & Hidden Rules: learn how generational backgrounds shape unwritten rules around money, resources, and survival
- Practical Life Skills: get realistic budgeting tips, low‑cost meal planning, and creative problem‑solving for under‑resourced or transitioning households
- Actionable Strategies: pick specific financial behaviors to change, break cycles of debt, and restore long‑term hope

He clutched a faded, expired ID and a hope that felt louder than the obstacles. He wanted a job, a home, a better life — but didn’t know how to get the documents, the training, or the guidance. He wasn’t lazy or careless; he simply hadn’t been shown the way.

A volunteer sat with him, walked him through forms, connected him to classes, and for the first time, he saw a path forward. That support changed everything.

Be the light with Main Street Ministries. Our neighbors who lack identification often can’t access jobs, housing, or essential services — and that keeps families stuck in long cycles of struggle. When we come together to help someone get an ID, teach life empowerment skills, or offer encouragement, we restore dignity and ignite hope.

🎒✨ **Back-to-School & Making an Impact!** ✨🎒

Main Street Ministries and **Operation ID** were proud to be part of the HISD Back 2 School Event on August 1 at Delmar Stadium!

Our amazing team—DeAndrea, Carlos, and treasured volunteer Betty—were there connecting families with resources and opportunities. ❤️

We’re excited to share that **Operation ID was a huge success, generating new referrals and expanding our reach!**

Some victories can't be measured—they're simply felt. ❤️

Fifteen months ago, she arrived in hospice wheelchair- and bed-bound. Over the months, we walked alongside her through visits to Healthcare for the Homeless, the Harris County Clerk's Office, DPS, and Social Security to help restore the documents she needed to move forward.

On our last trip, she walked without assistance.

**This photo captures the moment she received her Texas ID—just one day after her 35th birthday.** A simple card for many, but for her, it represents identity, dignity, and new opportunities.

When we asked how she'd like to celebrate, she smiled and said, "A burger, fries, and a drink from McDonald's."

Sometimes hope looks like taking the next step. Sometimes it looks like sharing a simple meal. Today, it looked like both.

"One of the best days of my life!" said our dedicated volunteer, Martin, who walked this journey with her.

Serving people well starts with investing in the people who serve — and yesterday proved that in the best way!

We spent the morning with our incredible staff learning from Matt Barnes, sharpening communication, and building healthier systems to support our growing ministry. We wrapped the day in laughter with team-building games, shared meaningful words of appreciation, and committed to how each of us wants to show up this year.

Each staff member shared one word describing how they want to show up for the team this year:

Consistent.
Communicative.
Present.
Wholehearted.
Strong
Supportive.
Discipline.
