Our city crews are doing an incredible job of fixing that collapsed lane on Broadway. They work their tails off, but they shouldn't just be rushing from one emergency to the next. They need real financial backing from city hall.The big issue?
The city currently has no updated maps for thousands of feet of our historic, underground storm tunnels and water lines. When a collapse happens, our crews are forced to work blind without accurate records.
I’m running for Mayor because I have a plan to change this.
Under our current system, the Mayor chairs the Board of Directors. We hold the purse strings on your tax dollars, and that's how we get our teams the resources they need.
For years, leadership focused only on the "supply side." They built an expensive new faucet, but hooked it up to an unmapped, dry-rotted garden hose.
While building that plant, our 923-mile underground grid was losing 44% of its treated water to leaks. which documents that 4.4 million gallons were escaping into the dirt every single day.
Our current budget puts less than $3 million a year into replacing those mains, which would take over a century to fix. We cannot afford to keep pouring money into the ground when we just spent $150 million on the Lake Ouachita Water Supply facility.
As Mayor, I will use our legislative power to help fix this grid without raising local utility rates:
Map the Grid: Partner with independent engineering experts to map out and inspect our hidden underground lines so our crews have a clear roadmap.
Secure the $500M State Bond: Use our 44% water loss data to aggressively secure our share of the upcoming Arkansas Infrastructure Bond Measure, money available to all municipalities.
