Hondo Education Foundation

Hondo Education Foundation Supporting students and teachers in Hondo ISD with grants! It is our hope for the foundation to raise money through individual and corporate donations.

HEF awarded $80,000 in 2025-26 school year, and we always need support to continue making a difference! 🦉 🤍 The Hondo Education Foundation is an independent not-for-profit organization designed to promote quality education for all students in our fine school district. The foundation's purpose is to advance the partnership with our community by generating and dispursing funds, above and beyond thos

e available through state and federal revenues, for innovative educational proposals that will impact a significant number of students and improve student achievement. The monies generated will be dispersed in innovative instruction grants each year. The number of grants awarded will be based on the funds generated. All Hondo ISD employees and/or groups who are involved directly or indirectly in the instruction of students are eligible for the grants, and selections will be based on the innovative nature of the proposals as well as their potential for enriching the educational experience of our students

This year, HEF awarded more than $38,000 in teacher grants, along with a major districtwide technology investment.

At Meyer Elementary, early learning received a major boost through grant-funded literacy stations, sensory tools, and hands-on classroom resources. These additions help young students develop strong academic foundations and stay engaged during the most formative years of their education.

Woolls Intermediate also saw its classrooms strengthened through HEF support. Grants provided teachers instructional tools, new calming corners for classrooms, and a little shade for all the students while enjoying recess outside.

At McDowell Middle School, funding for broadcast news equipment and other instructional tools has opened the door for more collaboration and student-led learning. In addition, both McDowell Middle School and Hondo High School students were inspired by motivational speaker Coach Stephen Mackey, whose HEF-funded presentation just before Thanksgiving encouraged students to represent the “H” well, stay coachable, smile through adversity, and invest in their character.

At Hondo High School, students and teachers benefited from improved media and broadcasting equipment, specialized resources for science classes, and new tables designed to enhance focused learning in math courses. These tools help prepare students for college, careers, and leadership opportunities well beyond graduation.

In addition to these grants, HEF also made a significant districtwide contribution by awarding $47,000 to the Technology Department for new Chromebooks for every 2nd grader.

As the year comes to a close, HEF invites community members to consider an end-of-year gift to help sustain and expand these efforts. Every donation (large or small) directly fuels teacher innovation and student success. Supporters can make a contribution by visiting www.hondoeducation.org and giving securely online.

HEF remains deeply grateful for the donors, partners, and community members who make these achievements possible and looks forward to another year of growth, partnership, and impact.

Chromebooks for Kids, Part 2!!

Who remembers COVID?! When HISD had to pivot quickly, technology became essential. HEF launched the Chromebooks for Kids campaign, and thanks to generous donors, we got devices into students’ hands fast.

Five years later, Chromebooks are still vital! Recently, the entire 2nd grade needed additional devices. Because of our community’s continued support, HEF was able to step in and help—a $47,000 investment in keeping students prepared and confident.

To everyone who donates, sponsors, and supports HEF’s mission: THANK YOU!!! Your generosity continues to make a real difference for Hondo ISD students.
