🚧 Traffic Alert – KY 80/KY 160 Intersection (Knott County) 🚧

Heads up, drivers! If you travel through the KY 80 and KY 160 intersection, you’ll start seeing some major traffic changes this week as crews continue concrete repairs.

👷 What to expect:
• Westbound fast lane will be reduced
• Left turn lane toward Hindman will be combined with through traffic
• At times, left turns may not be possible — you may need to go past the intersection, take the next permitted left turn, and come back

⚠️ Important reminders:
• Speed limit is reduced to 45 mph in the work zone
• Traffic patterns will continue to change as work progresses
• Stay alert and watch for signs and flaggers

We know this area can get tricky so please slow down, pay attention, and plan a little extra time for your trip.

UPDATE Hindman Fire/Rescue has cleared the scene. All lanes of Hwy 80 have been reopened for travel (0415 hrs).

Hindman Fire/Rescue is currently on scene of a motor vehicle collision and has KY Hwy 80 shut down in the westbound lanes (Hindman to Hazard).

The roadway is currently closed at Hwy 80 & Baker Fork Rd.

Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes and avoid the area if possible. Please use caution, watch for emergency personnel, and allow crews to work safely.

UPDATE: Hindman Fire/Rescue units have cleared the scene. All lanes of traffic are now reopen for travel (6:45pm).

Hindman Fire Rescue is currently on scene of a motor vehicle accident involving 2 vehicles at the intersection of KY 80 and Sylvester Branch. The patient has been extricated from the vehicle and is being transported by medical personnel for further evaluation.

Please use caution in the area as emergency crews continue to work on scene.

Motorists are strongly cautioned against traveling on KY 80 at this time. Road conditions have been reported as extremely dangerous due to ice, creating hazardous driving conditions across multiple areas of the highway.

First responders in neighboring counties have already received multiple calls for service related to vehicles losing control and crashes on KY 80.

If you do not have to travel, please stay off the roadway until conditions improve.
