Taken from my council liason report from this week-

A quick check-in on Stonybrook as the season gets underway.
Membership revenue is currently sitting around $719,000 - tracking slightly ahead of last year, which is a good sign. The season prep went smoothly: lifeguards hired and trained, staff onboarded, and a new office team member with strong operational experience hit the ground running.
On the facility side, the competition pool repairs have been completed and it's running normally. The team is also working proactively on some aging infrastructure — the goal is to stay ahead of issues rather than react to them mid-season.

Weather will always be a factor from here, but we're in good shape heading into summer! Its going to be a beautiful weekend, get out there and enjoy the pool.

Liberty Ave & Arcadia Way and Willow Brook Rd & Cedar St are both set to break ground by the end of June. Also on the agenda: a vote on the design agreement for Ralph Ave & Legion Place, backed by a freshly secured $194,341 NJDOT grant.

Swipe for the full preview. Tuesday, June 9 — 7 PM at Borough Hall.

A great morning at the 5K at the Farm at Demarest Farms supporting Special Olympics New Jersey.

The course was every bit as challenging as advertised — a steep opening climb, uneven terrain, and plenty of farm-country cross-country running. But the beautiful setting and great community turnout made it a lot of fun.

I was glad to share the course with Councilwoman Jen Margolis- Borough of Woodcliff Lake and Mayor Sheinfield - Hillsdale, NJ while supporting a cause that helps provide year-round athletic opportunities for Special Olympics athletes.

Proud to finish 4th overall and 1st in age group but even more proud to see so many people come together for such a worthwhile event.

Thanks to Hillsdale Volunteer Ambulance Service, Hillsdale Police Department NJ , the volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who participated to make the day a success. A round of applause or Sgt Sayers putting together another amazing day!

Congratulations to Bergen County's veteran of the month, Jake Prusha! Well deserved

This month, I’m proud to recognize Jake Prusha as our Veteran of the Month.

A lifelong resident of Hillsdale, Jake grew up in a family deeply rooted in service. Inspired by his great-uncle, Albert Rawson, who served as a Chief Medical Aid in the U.S. Army, Jake began his own path of public service as a 9-1-1 dispatcher, volunteer firefighter, and volunteer EMT before enlisting in the United States Coast Guard.

As a Health Service Technician, Jake was stationed in Boston and assigned to a mobile medical unit that traveled to remote bases and disaster-stricken areas, providing critical medical care to those in need. After four years of honorable service, he was honorably discharged in August 2025.

Jake’s commitment to serving others continued after leaving the military. Having witnessed firsthand the impact of mental health challenges on service members—and having experienced those challenges himself—he became a passionate advocate for mental health awareness within the military and veteran communities.

In 2025, he completed 100 consecutive days of the Murph workout, raising $20,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project. This year, he took on another extraordinary challenge: running 10 miles a day for 50 consecutive days while sharing mental health stories from all 50 states. Through this effort, he raised over $26,000 to support programs that provide mental health services and care to military members and veterans.

Jake’s dedication to service, both in and out of uniform, is a testament to the strength, compassion, and resilience that define our veteran community. I’m honored to recognize him as Bergen County’s Veteran of the Month and to thank him for his continued efforts to uplift and support others.

Memorial Day in Hillsdale. A morning of remembrance, reflection, and community. Thankful to see so many residents continue this tradition each year.

Check out Anthony DeRosa's photo album on the Borough of Hillsdale page. He did a great capturing the day. Highlighted here is one of his photos along with some of my personal shots from inside the parade.

Hard to think of a better way to kick off Memorial Day weekend than lacing up for a cause like this.

On Saturday, I had an amazing time running 10 miles alongside Jake Prusha, who is coming up on completing an incredible 50 States • 50 Days • 500 Miles challenge for Wounded Warrior Project - 10 miles every day for 50 consecutive days, honoring fallen service members and raising funds for veteran mental health.

Getting to hear firsthand about his journey over the last 50 days was something I won't forget. I was also running next to Hillsdale Police Sgt. Sayers, let's just say I was taking notes on his workout routine, and Bella Zimmerman, who spent all spring competing hard for PV Lax and then went out and ran 10 miles for this cause without missing a beat. The three of them organized the event and did a great job, I'm so impressed.

Rain couldn't stop it. Hillsdale showed up.
You can still donate to Jake's Wounded Warrior Project fundraiser — https://communityfundraising.woundedwarriorproject.org/campaigns/50-Days--50-States--500-Miles.

Thank you Bella for sharing this photo with me. And everyone needs to sign up for Sgt Sayers Race at The Farm 5K in two weeks!

It’s National Public Works Week

From road repairs and leaf collection to storm response, parks, equipment maintenance, and the work most people never see, our DPW crews help keep Hillsdale running every day.

As temperatures climb this week, if you see the crew out working, a wave or quick thank you goes a long way.

Appreciate everything they do for our community.

During National DPW Week, we proudly recognize the hardworking men of Hillsdale Department of Public Works who keep our community running every day. From maintaining our roads and parks to handling snow removal, and emergency response, their dedication often happens behind the scenes but never goes unnoticed.
