Shout out to Joe Solda, Pascack Valley High School, Hillsdale Fire Department, Hillsdale Office of Emergency Management, Hillsdale Volunteer Ambulance Service, Hillsdale Police Department NJ, and their River Vale counterparts for once again presenting Project Crash to members of the Senior Class.

Project Crash is a simulation of a fatal car accident involving high school seniors on Prom Night. While it's a simulation, all the emergency service personnel on site run through the steps they would take if the circumstances were real. All the participants are mic'ed up, and the student audience sees what can happen when people drink and drive.

The students are paying attention as the situation moves from an actor/student calling in the accident to the police to the arrival of emergency services, including the landing on the adjacent field of a Hackensack Meridian Hospital Helicopter. It's easy to forget you're watching a simulation as firefighters remove the roof of a vehicle to gain access to a badly injured driver, while only 10 feet away, paramedics pronounce the passenger in the other vehicle, spread across the hood of the car, dead at the scene.

This important simulation was widely conducted by volunteers. No one there will soon forget what they witnessed. Thank you to everyone involved. I have no doubt that the work you do in putting on this annual presentation saves lives.

On Sunday, June 7, I was thrilled to participate in the 5K at the Farm Event, which supported Special Olympics NJ. Once again, Demarest Farms was a gracious host. No surprise that Councilmember Camp - Hillsdale, NJ finished first in his age group.

Thanks to everyone who participated! We had great sponsors, and while HUGE credit goes to Dave Sayers and the Hillsdale Police Department NJ, I want to recognize the Hillsdale Office of Emergency Management, Hillsdale Volunteer Ambulance Service, and the Hillsdale Fire Department for making this another special event!

Thank you, Councilwoman Jen Margolis- Borough of Woodcliff Lake, for making sure I'm always where I need to be. I believe I was just about the last person to finish the course. But it allowed me the opportunity to enjoy the scenery and take some fun pictures.

I'm already looking forward to next year. I hope you'll join me in 2027.

Early this morning, the Hillsdale Fire Department responded to a fully-involved structure fire. Everyone in the house made it out safely. Firefighters arrived within five minutes of the initial dispatch. However, even after their quick response, it became apparent they could not enter the structure, and they immediately transitioned to defensive operations.

The residents of the home were taken to the hospital. It is our understanding that no one sustained serious injuries, and out of respect for their privacy, we will not be commenting further at this time.

As is protocol, the Arson Squad is investigating the cause of the fire, although we have no reason to believe anything suspicious has occurred.

In all, approximately 60 firefighters responded to the call. The Borough of Hillsdale and all of our Emergency Services extend our heartfelt thanks to the fire departments from Westwood, River Vale, Woodcliff Lake, and Saddle River, who responded and battled the fire alongside us for three hours to ensure the fire was first contained, then extinguished.

The early rain on Memorial Day did not deter us from honoring America's and Hillsdale's finest. We kicked off the morning with the BSA Troop 109 Pancake Breakfast. The Scouts were great, as was the food.

We had a series of events to honor America and Hillsdale. Starting with our Hillsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps ceremony, we moved on to the Hillsdale Volunteer Fire Hillsdale Fire Department ceremony, followed by the Hillsdale Police Department ceremony.

We completed the pre-parade activities with a moving event in Veterans Park hosted by Hillsdale's American Legion Post 162. I was honored to be asked to say a few words. For me, the highlight of the event was hearing from the Grand Marshall of the parade, Retired Police Chief Frank Mikulski.

Below are a few of the pictures I took from inside the parade.

On Friday morning we cut the ribbon on a new group home in Hillsdale. In speaking to those in attendance, I went into great detail about watching the construction of the home up close. What I failed to mention was that while the outside is important (and beautiful), it’s what’s on the inside that counts. Speaking on behalf of the residents of Hillsdale, we’re so pleased to welcome you to town! Thank you United Way of Bergen County, and Community Development of Bergen County (I apologize if I left anyone out… if I did, let me know and I will add you to this post).

Congratulation to Abby Metz (Troop 95937) for being recognized this morning at Congressman Josh Gottheimer’s 2026 Scouts Honor Ceremony.

Abby’s Gold Award project was working with the Hillsdale Environmental Commission in order to raise awareness and educate residents on protecting homes and the environment from the invasive spotted lantern fly.
