Shout out to Joe Solda, Pascack Valley High School, Hillsdale Fire Department, Hillsdale Office of Emergency Management, Hillsdale Volunteer Ambulance Service, Hillsdale Police Department NJ, and their River Vale counterparts for once again presenting Project Crash to members of the Senior Class.
Project Crash is a simulation of a fatal car accident involving high school seniors on Prom Night. While it's a simulation, all the emergency service personnel on site run through the steps they would take if the circumstances were real. All the participants are mic'ed up, and the student audience sees what can happen when people drink and drive.
The students are paying attention as the situation moves from an actor/student calling in the accident to the police to the arrival of emergency services, including the landing on the adjacent field of a Hackensack Meridian Hospital Helicopter. It's easy to forget you're watching a simulation as firefighters remove the roof of a vehicle to gain access to a badly injured driver, while only 10 feet away, paramedics pronounce the passenger in the other vehicle, spread across the hood of the car, dead at the scene.
This important simulation was widely conducted by volunteers. No one there will soon forget what they witnessed. Thank you to everyone involved. I have no doubt that the work you do in putting on this annual presentation saves lives.
