THIS WEDNESDAY, April 8th at 10:00 AM, we need YOU to testify IN-PERSON against state funding for anti-abortion organizations.
It’s bad enough that Governor Kehoe wants to slash our state budget and hike up sales tax on EVERYTHING so his rich friends can get a tax break––now, Senator Curtis Trent thinks unregulated, anti-abortion pregnancy centers should get essentially free money from the state through a 100% tax credit incentive for donations.
Unregulated pregnancy centers (sometimes called CPCs – Crisis Pregnancy Centers) are anti-abortion fake clinics that target pregnant people in crisis and try to manipulate them out of getting abortions. In Missouri there are more than 100 of these centers, and they receive millions in state money originally designated for social welfare benefits like the TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) program.
At 10:00 AM this Wednesday, The Senate Committee on Economic Development will be accepting testimony on SB 1547, a bill to increase the tax credit percentage for donations to domestic violence shelters, diaper banks, and unregulated anti-abortion centers. One of these things is not like the other…
Missouri already spends the most per capita in the nation on these unregulated, anti-abortion pregnancy centers–and this year’s proposed budget includes even more:
$2,033,561 from OUR General Revenue Fund
$50,000 from the Department of Social Services Federal Fund
$10,300,000 from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Federal Fund
Pregnant and parenting people deserve support and resources––but this bill is just a sneaky mechanism to fund inherently political, anti-abortion, organizations with zero transparency. Now the state wants to direct billions of additional dollars to pay out these reimbursements, further straining the state’s already collapsing safety net and budget gaps.

Missourians already decided that they want legal abortion––we shouldn’t be spending state dollars on organizations that exist to deter people from accessing abortion in the first place, let alone instead of spending our tax dollars on programs that actually support people, no strings attached.
