SUGAR Therapy Dog

SUGAR Therapy Dog My name is Sugar and I am a 2 year old Golden Retriever Therapy Dog. I am currently assigned to the Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center.

I am a registered Therapy Dog, AKC Competitor, Dock Diving fool, and down to earth family girl. I have been making therapy visits to nursing homes etc. since I was 8 weeks old, but recently received my Complex Rating so that I can do therapy visits anywhere... in particular, hospitals. I will be working in the Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center with my mom Trish. Prior to becoming a registe

red Therapy Dog, I earned my Canine Good Citizen Award, Rally and Obedience titles, and will be Dock Diving at a fair near you :)
When I'm not working, I am at home with my family. My kids even let me sleep on the bed when Mom and Dad aren't looking! Hopefully as I continue with my service I will be able to update this page with helpful info involving my visits and the wonderful people I am bound to meet and destined to give love and kisses. Thank you for your support,
Sugar

What an AMAZING time I had at the Making Strides breast cancer walk this past Saturday! I was asked to come "work" as a therapy dog for cancer survivors, but as always, what I got in return was so much more. I cuddled. I loved. I got scratches and belly rubs. I saw tears as I listened to stories and saw some of the bravest women I've met. I couldn't tell them how much it meant to me to be there, but I could offer an extra nuzzle or a quick kiss.

I could never capture in a few pictures how great it was to see people joined in a common cause. To see people there celebrating life or the life of someone lost to cancer is something I will never forget.

It has been so long since I have given any news of what I have been up to! It is time to dust off the tail feathers and get back to work!!! Time for more therapy visits and time to do my best to help others :)
I need help spreading the word about this local event! I will put additional info up in the next few days, but we really need to get people entered (it really is fun!) or if distance is a problem, you can always make a donation directly to the page. I cannot wait to tell you more about Jordan and how he has changed my family. And, in the process we have a chance to help out another wonderful family :)

Help us create a community of courage for two families in the Banks/Forest Grove are who are struggling through a medical crisis or the recent loss of a child.

I'm so excited that even my tail feathers are crossed! I may get to add a second hospital for therapy visits ❤

So many great visits today at the hospital I can't keep track of them even on my toes! Today, in addition to all my regular visits, my new friend Parker and his dad came to see what this new hospital was like and they will be joining the Kaiser Westside Medical Center Dog Therapy Team with me. That guy is pretty nifty! He even does a few tricks 😄. Can this even be called a job when I love it so much?!? ❤❤❤❤❤

Check Parker's page, he is a busy guy :)

He works to educate and generate awareness about cancer in both humans and our four-legged friends, and strongly supports Morris Animal Foundation an...

Today is a beautiful day! It was cool, crisp, and sunny this morning when I headed in for my visit today. I appreciate these beautiful days more now that I've found out I'm expected to wear booties to go potty in the rain to help keep me clean and dry. Uh, I'm a muddin' kinda girl :)

I do want to practice though because I would wear ANYTHING if it meant more love and hospital visits💜

I went back today to see my friend today. I about had ants in my pants the first 10 minutes! because i was so excited to see her! I was sad she was gone but it made my tail wag to know she was well enough to go home❤

Who has 4 paws and loves hospital visits??? This girl does! Do you know how sometimes you really wish for something and think it really hard hoping it will come true? Normally I think about hot dogs or cheese or playing fetch or warm cinnamon rolls on the counter... Sometimes it happens. Sometimes it doesn't.
Well, today we came in to see a patient I met this past Monday who was staying for awhile. I was so happy to see her and I was standing by her thinking so hard... "Please let me hop in bed. Please let me jump in bed. PLEEEEAAAAASSSE?!?" IT WORKED!
I still can't believe it either, but I got to get in bed and snuggle with her for over an hour ❤ She told me I was making her day, but she really made mine. She petted, loved, scratched, and talked to me in the sweetest way. She fed me treats (she didn't even mind the crumbs!) in bed and I listened to stories of when she was a stunt person in the Wild Wild West show at Universal Studios. In return I kissed her often😃
I still don't know why I was chosen for this job, but I have to think it was for days just like these❤❤❤

What a great day it ended up being! I sat at home today looking outside at the rain. But then, my mom came home and I saw her pick up my special vest and collar and I couldn't help but try and jump up and grab it so we could hurry to the hospital ❤

The visit started like many others, but when I got to the second floor today an extra special surprise awaited. I met a wonderful family! It's hard to tell time when you have Paws instead of fingers, but I bet we must have have played and loved for about a half an hour!

I didn't get to see the mom much because she was there for surgery, but oh my goodness her two kids were wonderful! They fed me treats, hugged me, played tag in the room as they went to different spots and they called me by name. Nothing is as sweet as hearing Sugar!

Then, in between all that, the girl would scratch me in just the right place! Aaaaaahhh... If we worked it just right, the kids would scratch my back and I'd lean on them and my wagging tail would drum on the recliner.

Almost forgot! The Mom and Dad had a great time watching me with the kids and took lots of pictures 😍 I think Dad was really grateful because he gave me the best massage with his hands on either side of my face. I tried super hard to lick him, but my tongue wouldn't go the right direction:(

My paws are crossed that I will see them in a couple days as mom recovers

Boy oh boy is my tail wagging today! After a few weeks away from the hospital I remembered just why I love going there so much. One of the patients requested me by name ❤ I tell you that elevator couldn't get me there quick enough!

For all the amazing conveniences the new hospital has they sure planted the grass a long ways away! My teeth are floating by the time I get to the canine potty :)

I missed the familiar faces from last week, but that also means they got better and I can definitely give a few wags for that!

I visited with a wonderful guy today that really really wanted me to jump in bed with him, but after pacing back and forth a few times trying to find a way, I gave up and put my paws on the bed and leaned as far as I could to give him kisses everywhere.

best day

All if this love is amazing! I got to visit with some of the same patients I saw yesterday. One very nice lady gave me THE BEST belly rub! It's so great when they remember me :) I was a super good girl, but can you keep a secret? I'd really like to steal me a pair of those rad yellow hospital socks ;-)
