Today, we celebrate the remarkable career of our Water Resources Manager, Rick McLoud, as he retires after 45 years in the water industry.

Yesterday, we had the honor of celebrating Rick alongside colleagues, partners, friends and family with a special ceremony at the newly renamed McLoud Reservoir, formerly South Platte Reservoir, in recognition of Rick's leadership and dedication.

For more than four decades, Rick played a key role in shaping Highlands Ranch Water into the resilient and forward-thinking organization it is today. From securing renewable water supplies and expanding water storage capacity to helping lead long-term regional water initiatives, Rick’s impact on Highlands Ranch Water — and the community we serve — cannot be overstated.

Rick, thank you for your incredible service and lasting impact on our community. Your foresight and integrity will continue to guide our work for decades to come.

to 2003 when one of our most impactful milestones took place. As we celebrate our 45th anniversary, we’re reflecting on key moments that shaped our commitment to sustainability. In 2003, we implemented our water budget-based billing system, an approach that continues to guide conservation efforts today and is especially relevant as we face ongoing drought conditions this year.

Since implementing water budgets, residential water use has decreased by about 20%, even as the community continued to grow. This long-term reduction highlights how conservation has become a community norm, not just a temporary response to drought. Our partners at the Highlands Ranch Metro District are offering a temporary drop-off site for tree limbs and branches lost during the May 5-6 snowstorm. The site is now open in the dirt lot south of Highlands Ranch Stadium at Redstone Park (3270 Redstone Park Circle) and will be available through Sunday, May 17. The drop-off is open to Highlands Ranch residents only — no contractors.

Pruned branches and trimmings less than 12 inches in diameter, along with woody plant materials, will be accepted during regular park hours. Finished lumber, non-woody material, grass clippings, sod, and root balls will not be accepted.

In addition to this resource, Douglas County - Government offers a slash-mulch drop-off site in Sedalia, and the Highlands Ranch Community Association has a Clear the Clutter event scheduled for Highlands Ranch residents on Saturday, May 16.
