From the Chief of the Highland Fire District:

*** Press Release***
On Thursday, June 11th at 1354hrs, the Highland Fire District was alerted to a structure fire located at 33 Emerson Terrace. First arriving personnel were on scene within two minutes and found an active and well involved fire, with fire showing on 4 sides of the structures roof.

A Second alarm was transmitted, bringing in additional agencies to assist with suppression efforts. Crews immediately deployed hose lines to conduct an aggressive fire attack and protect exposures. Due to the weather, additional agencies were requested to the scene. The Highland Fire District operated on scene until 1801hrs. The cause for the fire is under investigation by the Ulster County Fire Investigation unit.

The Highland Fire District was assisted by the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department, Milton Fire Department, Esopus Fire Department, Modena Fire Department, New Paltz Rescue Squad, Town of Lloyd Building Department, Town of Lloyd Police Department, New York State Police, Ulster County Fire Investigation Unit, Red Cross, and Central Hudson Gas & Electric.

At our June 9th meeting, we had a special presentation by Focused Wealth Management (Phil, Matt and Isabel) as they presented this year’s scholarship program, “Ladders to Learning”. Empowering our heroes to ignite brighter futures through education. Their scholarship program honors the dedication and service of firefighters across all districts they support. They award 2 - $250 scholarships annually for active members or active members children continuing their education.

Focus Wealth Management presented the 2026 scholarship to Firefighter Logan Carle.

Congratulations to Logan and the Highland High School Class of 2026! Logan will be continuing his education studying political science at Marist College! He is planning to graduate in 3 years. He also just completed his firefighter 1 class dedicating over 130 hours learning the essentials of fire fighting! He is doing a great job and we are proud of him!

We wish Logan the best of luck! Congratulations! 👏🏻👏🏻

Members of the Highland Hose Co have been operating mutual aid to Poughkeepsie since about noon today!
We pray that every firefighter gets home safely!

Please keep them all in your prayers!

Thank you all for your bravery, commitment and courage to battle this massive and multiple structure fires!

Town of Lloyd Police send out our prayers to all the fire departments battling this inferno in Poughkeepsie and especially our brave volunteers of the Highland Fire Department! God watch over you!
