Happy 4th of July Weekend, Henderson County!

This weekend, as we celebrate our nation’s independence, we are also reminded that we are approaching a very special milestone — America’s 250th birthday.

For nearly 250 years, generations before us have worked, sacrificed, served, farmed, built, protected, and invested in the communities we call home today.

As I travel throughout District 1 and talk with residents, I’m reminded that the strength of Henderson County has always been its people — our families, farmers, small businesses, first responders, teachers, workers, and neighbors who show up for one another.

The responsibility we have now is to honor those who came before us while making decisions that protect and strengthen the future for those who come next.

I hope everyone enjoys this holiday weekend with family and friends. Stay safe, enjoy the fireworks, and take a moment to appreciate the freedoms and opportunities we are blessed with.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Their courage and selflessness gave us the freedoms we enjoy every single day.

For our family, this day carries even deeper meaning as we remember those who served before us — including my father Gerald "Jay" Douglas, Uncle Delbert "Doug" Douglas and father-in-law — Thomas "Tommy" Morris, men who answered the call with honor, duty, and love for this nation. Their legacy of service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Today, we remember the fallen, honor our veterans, and hold close the families who have carried that sacrifice through generations.

May we never take freedom for granted.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend, let us never forget the men and women who served and sacrificed for this country so we could enjoy the freedoms we have today.

We also want to recognize our first responders — the police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and dispatchers — who continue to answer the call every single day to protect and serve our communities.

And today, let’s not overlook our farmers. While many of us spend time around the grill and dinner table this holiday weekend, it’s because of the hardworking men and women in agriculture who work long hours, often without recognition, to help feed this country.

To all who serve in any capacity — thank you. America is stronger because of you.
