Nevada’s clear skies and dark-sky parks, like Great Basin National Park, make it a perfect spot to observe celestial events. Encourage your students to kick off the year by tracking constellations or spotting January’s meteor showers!

🌋 Geothermal Powerhouse
Nevada ranks second in the nation for geothermal energy production. This renewable resource highlights the state’s potential for sustainable energy solutions—a perfect topic for engaging classroom discussions on renewable energy!

🐦 Winter Wildlife Wonders
From the desert tortoise to the greater sage-grouse, Nevada’s diverse habitats host unique wildlife. Winter is an excellent time to explore how animals adapt to colder temperatures and shifting ecosystems.

METRICS is engaging and ongoing training using Nevada robotics Books and Bots Lessons. teacher learn how to use robots to meet Pre K and K literacy and math standards, and how to develop early readers, critical thinkers and problem solvers.

Participants will have opportunities to participate in Reno, Las Vegas and Winnemucca locations as well as receive a $600 stipend for 7.5 hours of training.

Apply now for the NV Governors Office of Science, Innovation and Technology and Regional STEM Networks for the STEM Teacher of the Year Program!

As the State continues to diversify the economy by recruiting STEM industry, Nevada’s education systems are providing high-quality and career-connected STEM learning experiences to students. Nevada’s students are acquiring STEM skills, mindset, interests and identities that will propel them and the State forward. The STEM Teacher of the Year Program will recognize individual leaders’ impact on the State’s STEM education and workforce goals.

Each Regional STEM Teacher of the Year and each Regional STEM Advocate of the Year will receive a certificate from the Governor along with a digital seal and a swag bag from OSIT and NDE. Regional winners will be recognized at their school site or organization and invited to their designated Regional STEM Network convening to accept their award.

The Nevada STEM Teacher of the Year and the Nevada STEM Advocate of the Year will receive a certificate from the Governor, a digital seal, a swag bag, and a monetary stipend of $500. The winners will be presented with their award at their school site or organization.

Applications for STEM Teacher of the Year/STEM Advocate of the Year program are due by February 12th. Those interested can read more and apply at

The Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation and Technology and the Regional STEM Networks, in partnership with the Nevada Department of Education, propose the STEM Teacher of the Year Program to increase awareness of high-quality STEM educators, advocates, and educational experiences in Nevada.
