This is one of my favorite techniques for getting a piece to come down LEVEL and to give it a little bit more time to swing in the direction that you want. Control is the name of the game, doesn’t get much better than a tip’n’butt tie.

The “salami cut” is one of my favorite cuts for bringing down pieces right next to the trunk. Sometime I like to give it just a little tap with my hand to get it to land right where I want.

Brush your teeth!! A fun shout out to that movie 300. Keep germs out of the next tree you prune by making sure that your tools are properly sanitized!

Just a quick application of a three-cut trigger technique. Used in tandem with the heavy duty straps I have found that this drastically reduces your risk of a barber chair for situations where it is suspected. If you have any heavy low angle limbs I’d love to help!

Most of the work happens after the drop! It’s always hard to know just how much biomass is up in the branch hanging over your head until it’s on the ground in front of you. Safe cutting practices and good chainsaw management make for a fun timelapse!
