📚 September 21 at 7 PM: Kevin Mac Donnell presents Mark Twain’s Black Muse, exploring the life and legacy of Twain’s butler, George Griffin.

This November, The Mark Twain House & Museum brings together literature, technology, and some extraordinary voices for the 10th Anniversary Mark Twain American Voice in Literature Weekend.

On November 6, we’ll celebrate the power of contemporary American literature at the Mark Twain American Voice Award Celebration.

Then on November 7, we turn to one of the most consequential questions facing writers today with Creative Writing in the Age of AI, a symposium exploring what artificial intelligence means for authors, creativity, publishing, education, copyright, and the future of the written word.

The weekend will feature David Baldacci, Ron Charles, John Warner, Adriana Trigiani, and many more.

Turns out Mark Twain is still bearing fruit. Literally. 🍅

Earlier this summer, our own resident gardener Dallas Coursey shared a few “Mark Twain Tomato” plants he had grown, an heirloom beefsteak variety with a particularly appropriate name. One of those little plants went home with one of our colleagues, and after a summer of sun, water, and probably more attention than was strictly necessary, we have tomatoes!

And, of course, seeds saved for the next generation.

From a little plant behind the sundial garden wall to a backyard harvest, we’d call that a pretty good plot development.

New Free Event! October 1, 7pm (In Person) ~ Samuel Johnson’s Dictionary of the English Language was published in 1755, just 21 years before the Declaration of Independence. In this evening event, Celine Luppo McDaid, the Hyde Director of Dr. Johnson’s House in London, joins us to talk about how the Dictionary came to be and Johnson’s literary legacy in the English-speaking world. This will include responses to his work by fellow lexicographer, Noah Webster, and other literary greats in successive generations, including Webster’s fellow Nutmegger, Mark Twain.
