Yesterday, we had an incredible day with the excellent Connecticut Department of Housing team! We had some intense discussions and team-building exercises. Our agency and commissioner and deputy commissioner (Seila Mosquera-Bruno & ) are top-notch!

Great facilitation by KJR Consulting, during which we evaluated ourselves and learned about the ideal team player. Plus, surprised us with a visit! We appreciate his support and leadership!

Through our daily work, we are preserving and creating new housing for all and making life better for the residents of Connecticut.

*New Senior Housing*

This week we cut the ribbon for 22 brand new units in the beautiful Parkville neighborhood of Hartford. The New Samaritan includes bonus apartment space on the ground floor for visiting relatives and care coordinators, and outdoor spaces for dining and gardening. It’s also on the bus line, and convenient to grocery and shops in Parkville.

The Department of Housing’s mission is to ensure everyone has access to quality housing options throughout the State of Connecticut.

Thanks to Hartford Mayor , CT State Representative, Minnie Gonzalez, and of course HUD for your continued commitment to helping our residents who need it most.

DOH Investment: $2 million

We agree with that everyone should have access to a safe, warm place to call home. By achieving this, there's a greater need for collaboration on a multi-agency approach that strengthens the state's homelessness prevention and response efforts.

🔈The Connecticut Interagency Council on Homelessness comprises state agency leaders responsible for housing and intervention support services.

The council continues to build upon efforts undertaken by several state agencies, including the Department of Social Services, Mental Health and Addiction Services, and Housing.

Commitment + Collaboration = Impact.

Our mission at the CT Department of Housing is simple;

Ensure everyone has access to quality housing opportunities and options throughout Connecticut.

After five years, the Bayonet Apartments in New London officially opened their doors in a ceremony with all 28 units leased. Thanks to and for their partnership and commitment to diverse housing.

“DOH is committed to the preservation and creation of housing for all. We also support creating access to quality and safe affording rents. The complex, built by Eastern Connecticut Housing Opportunities (ECHO), offers expansive amenities like a community center and gym. Sitting next to New London Mall, the building provides access to a grocery retailer, a medical urgent care facility, and restaurants.

The department has invested over $16M;

Phase 1: over $5M, 28 units, 1, 2, and 3 bedrooms
Phase 2: over $11M, 36 units, 1, 2, and 3 bedrooms

As we continue to create and preserve housing throughout the state, we applaud everyone who helped to make this possible.” CT DOH Commissioner Seila Mosquera-Bruno

Affordable Housing is on everyone’s mind for good reason. It’s not only about having a stable place to live; it’s also about the ability to buy your first home, rent conveniently near your job, build generational wealth, talent retention in the workplace or even acquiring the equity needed for a small business loan. It’s truly the main driver of economic development.

Commissioner Seila Mosquera-Bruno has more than 20 years of experience in all aspects of building affordable housing. However, before she was leading the development of affordable housing for the state of Connecticut, she was a young single mother. Watch this 5 min video, from Shelterforce Magazine ( link above 👆🏽) to learn more about how Commissioner Mosquera-Bruno got her start and how she landed exactly where she was supposed to be. Connecticut is lucky to have her!
