Town of Hanover Water Restriction Emergency
June 15, 2026

The levels in our water tanks are critically low. This is as low as they have been in at least the last 15 years. Use is outpacing our ability to supply water; our pumps are running 24/7, increasing the likelihood of equipment failure.

We ask everyone to do all they can to be part of the solution and reduce water use as much as possible.

Starting tonight, June 16, 2026, at MIDNIGHT (12:00 am), the Hanover Water Department will be actively monitoring irrigation usage, and we will cite violators with fines and post the addresses of violators on Hanover's website.

We hope this provides everyone with a reasonable opportunity to turn off their irrigation systems and reduce non-essential water use.

The current situation is serious and requires immediate attention. These measures are being put in place to ensure adequate fire protection and that essential household needs can be met.

These actions are intended to safeguard public safety, maintain system reliability, and preserve our limited water resources during this period of concern. We appreciate the community's cooperation and commitment to helping us address this challenge.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation with these water-use restrictions. By working together and complying with these measures, we can help preserve and maintain the reliability of our water system for the entire community. If conservation goals are not met, additional restrictions or mandatory measures may be necessary in the future.

Tonight's Select Board meeting (Hanover-MA.gov/SB), scheduled for 6:30 pm, will provide a forum to further address this situation.

🚨Hanover make note of the water restriction guidelines - we are in a drought and water levels are at critical levels 🚨
We expect to discuss this at our meeting tonight - be sure to tune in for more details or if you have questions. That is the best place to get factual information.

Due to extremely high water demand and ongoing dry weather conditions. all three of Hanover‘s water treatment plants are currently operating at full capacity and but having trouble meeting current consumption demands. As a result, our storage tank levels are approaching critical, historically low thresholds and are not recovering during off-peak hours.

We are asking all residents and businesses to immediately suspend non-essential water usage, including outdoor watering, irrigation, pool filling, vehicle washing, and other outdoor water usage over the next several days.

These conservation efforts will help maintain adequate water storage levels for essential daily use, fire protection, and emergency response across the whole community.

We appreciate your cooperation and support.

Today is Election Day! Hanover high School polls open until 6pm. 💙💛
I’m excited to support some new faces with fresh perspectives this year:
🍎 Hanley Scott for school committee - I met Hanley last year when she volunteered to help manage my campaign. She was eager to learn about the process and get involved. She has become a great friend and I’m inspired by her dedication to her family, hard work ethic and advocacy for our schools.
📝 Jason Factor for Board of Assessors - thrilled to have a local dad, coach, business leader and all aroundd great guy stepping up to the plate. I value his balanced opinion and know he will make a huge impact on the board.
💛 Jim Hoyes for Select Board - although not a “new face”, but a new role! I’ve had the pleasure of serving with Jim on Ad Com and most recently collaborating with him in his role as Budget Director. We are so lucky to have his expertise coming to the Select Board. I’ve learned a lot from him and value his perspective. This is going to be a great year 💙💙

Juneteenth National Independence Day is celebrated annually on June 19th. This federal holiday is a time to reflect on African American history and how slavery affected our community and nation. During this time, all Hanover town and school buildings will display the Juneteenth flag. Juneteenth marks the anniversary of General Order No. 3, announced by Union Army General Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas. This day is also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day.

Observance and Closures

On Thursday, June 19, 2025, in observance of Juneteenth, Hanover town offices and departments, including the Town Hall, Hanover MA Council on Aging, Town of Hanover, MA DPW, Transfer Station, Ames Way, and the John Curtis Free Library, will be closed. Normally scheduled hours will resume on Friday, June 20th.

I want to extend my deepest thanks to everyone who worked tirelessly on my campaign. None of this would have been possible without your support, commitment, and love. It has been an absolute honor to have such an incredible team behind me.

Hughes Crew
💙Hanley Johnson – Campaign Treasurer and rule-follower extraordinaire. Thank you for keeping us on track!
💙Greg Satterwhite – My life coach and mentor throughout this journey. I’ll get ice cream with you anytime.
💙Meredith McCarthy – Our sign czar and standout MVP. You gave up your Mother’s Day to hold signs on a sidewalk with me, and I’ll never forget that.
💙Brian May – Partner in crime and critical motivator, always pushing us to just keep doing the work.
💙 Kathi Thomson - you helped me design an impactful mailer - I am so thankful! And I can't believe you sorted them on your own... wowza.
💙Erin Bertrand – Comic relief and the positive energy we all needed. The team chat wouldn’t have been the same without you.

💙Ming Koslowsky – My door-knocking queen and forever optimist. Always ready to pitch in and lift us up.
💙Michelle Davidson – Always ready to match my level of radical energy. You made important connections and showed up every single time.

With gratitude and love,
Radical Rachel
